Independent's trophy is not looking bad!

Engstler, Poulsen, D'Aste, Tanev, Boardman, Colak already confirmed, and we are still waiting for second Proteam and Wiechers drivers, Okyay, Campos Honda and maybe Corthals or Nogues or a Lada team!
Great news!

I think the new ballast-rules make the entering of a petrol-leon or a quite interesting, so it would be a shame is Corthals would not be able to enter the championship this year. The same goes for Honda.

Speaking of the ballast rules, will they apply the same to factory as well as independent teams? If they are, I wouldnt want to be a privateer driving a BMW this year.

I think the indipendents' trophy looks simply fantastic. Look at the amount of talent we have this year. IMO Boardman and Colak have the speed to become works drivers in the future, if they grow up correctly.
Anyway, from what I have seen in the pictures, he has a vary "Croatian" car, talking about his livery, and the fact that the words 'Croatia' and 'Seat' are in the name of the team makes me wonder if he has any slight support from Seat Croatia.

Yeah, I said that immediately after they released the rules, and still had no reply! And the fact that lots of Seats are entering the championship makes me even more worried about that...

Official confirmation of the Lada entry:

http://www.lada.ru/cgi-bin/statement...e=76843&prev=1

The article says that on January, 29th three Lada 106 have gone from Tolyatti to the first stage of 2009 season, Curitiba. These are the old (Lada 110) cars, but:
Quote:
The Cars have been essentially modernised that has allowed to improve aerodynamics, speeds, engine power, stability-controllability of the cars as a whole...
Drivers are confirmed, Jap Van Lagen, Victor Shapovalov and Cyril Ladygin.

Also interesting:
Quote:
...there is an active preparation of sports cars LADA PRIORA according to technical requirements and World championship regulations. Replacement of sport cars it is planned to carry out in the middle of a season, on one of summer stages of European part WTCC.
(translated using some website translator)

Good to see the field gets filled up by the Ladas...

That's a great looking livery, imo. Whoever is driving it wears an open-face helmet, which is really cool.

Livery looks very nice in red! Not so many red cars last year, but already 4 this year.

The driver is Jaap van Lagen, however last year he did not wear an open-face helmet.

That's definitely JVL's helmet in open face form. Hopefully he has to wear those *****in' bubble goggles as well.

JvL is using a Stilo open helmet.

Isn't red the racing color of Lada?

I haven't found official confirmation of Okyay, and the second Wiechers car also needs a questionmark, as they probably need a driver with budget.

Still looking very healthy, especially in these times! What other top series, maybe except LMS, can say that the grid is growing?

Weird to see a Honda Accord with the name of James Thompson on the poster! Anyway I'm glad Lada has joined, and let's not laugh at them, you never know, they might as well do some great stuff... They certainly have a great driver

Still curious about the Lada effort. Cute that a privateer teams wants to sponsor Lada effort, but the Lada 110 is no where near the front.

I simply does not understand the press focus at this point.

Its a factory sponsored project now, as far as I understand. That webpage is lada.ru, so it's a company press release. And they apparently wrote a contract with KOS (the company running WTCC) last year about participating.

Probably no, but Chevy wasnt exactly title contenders first factory year either, but supposedly they did a lot of tests since last season so we might still get a bit of a surprise.

Well, even Thompson and Honda is on that Curitiba poster. Think there might have been some artistic freedom involved there.

I'm surely not saying that Lada is going to surprise all of us in Curitiba, but they will surely grow as they get more and more experience. I know that here in Europe we have probably the best touring car tradition (BMW, Alfa, Seat and many more), but that doesn't mean Russians can't come and have good results. They're a good team, everybody is keen on working and van Lagen is definitely a great driver, so they have all the chances to follow Chevy's pattern, like stedevil was mentioning.
And yes, KSO and Lada had a contract, and Wtcc is planning to go to Russia next year, from what was said in a press conference held in Moscow last year. They were discussing about street circuits in Moscow, St Petersburg or Togliatti, which is where Lada is based.

Whether it will go fast or not, the Lada has great livery. Although I'm very sceptical about that car ever winning a race, I wish them good luck anyway. The more brands in the championshop the merrier!

Okyay: information on the teams website. It's turkish (I can't read), but I believe they are saying that they will enter a car in WTCC and a car in the TurkishTCC.

Yvan has a new livery. Also a new national flag by the looks of things. That flag above "Y. Muller" is the Itallian flag.

http://www.touringcartimes.com/picture.php?id=3130

I had assumed that perhaps he is racing Tarquini's to illustrate what the livery on the SEAT's will now look like but the number is #1. My new thought is that perhaps Yvan is being given Tarquinis Leon from last year and though they have "re-liveried" it perhaps the team hasn't got round to putting the Tricolour above "Y. Muller" on the rear side window. But I cannot help but think the team would surely have built 09' spec Leons.

Nope, that's definitely the French flag.

Wow, and they're down 18bhp this year. Good.
