British Rallycross R7 (Mallory) Moved

The seventh round of the MSA Quaife British Rallycross Championship scheduled for Mallory Park in Leicestershire on Sunday 12th September has been moved to the popular Blyton venue in Lincolnshire due to scheduled track works at Mallory Park being brought forward.

After a stunning fifth round of the MSA Quaife British Rallycross Championship action at the Friendly Circuit on Sunday 8th August, a post race track inspection revealed that the 550bhp+ Supercars had worn down the track, dangerously close to the circuit’s hospitality area water supply main. In conjunction with the ongoing circuit safety run-off expansion on the Stebbe Straight and re-surfacing of the road course, it was already planned to raise, harden and regrade this section of the Rallycross track and surrounding grass areas in the winter, this has now been brought forward.

Mallory Park General Manager John Ward said : “The MSA Quaife British Rallycross meeting at Mallory Park on 8th August was a big success and the drivers, organisation and fans all enjoyed one of the best events of the season so far. A huge well done must go to Pat Doran on taking the victory" he added " We could have reinstated the track to cope with the same amount of competitors, but the organisers Lydden Hill Motor Club are predicting more entries for this ever more popular championship and together we feel that we would rather address the issue now and
start preparations for an even bigger and better events here at Mallory in 2011”.

"We would like to thank Lydden Hill Motor Club and the Motor Sports Association for their assistance, support and understanding, as all parties are committed to firmly establishing the MSA Quaife British Rallycross Championship as the premier national rallycross series in the world".

Next event: Lydden Hill, August 30

Reading between the PC comments, at least this means that the drivers haven't got to worry about running their cars on a circuit that many of them seemed to feel was unfit for competition - which has to be a good thing, right?

not about plant hire its about knowing how the build the loose like Cecil does dog down and build layers vibrating it down and let each level settle for quite a bit of time

"The popular Blyton venue" Are they having a laugh???

Its a field! And its the only track that has wrecked more cars than Mallory!

Yes you are correct but only when there was tens of new drivers in stockhatchs !

Never has the track been as bad as Mallory, and yes it is in a field , so was Lydden once and is still really.

I have to admit, i wasn't the biggest fan of the first corner off the start as it always had a reputation of being a car destroyer (I remember picking up pieces from many cars in the past). But after seeing the footage from the live event and its re-profiling / using cones to mark the corner instead of tyre bales, i'm a convert, and wouldn't mind having a go at racing there at some point, if i had the chance!

IMO Lydden is one of the smoothest tracks in Rallycross today!... aside from the tree-sap soaked Holjes there probably isn't anywhere smoother, making statements which aren't factual only make you look an ars% - back off and give credit where it's due pal

As for Mallory, it's been 'used' twice in recent times - the first time mistakes may have been made with dumping rubble into the loose, the latest seems to have claimed a car or two, but hey that's Rallycross - Should there be a 'defined' gradient of loose? what would you recommend? - you don't hear WRC drivers or even Supercar drivers grumbling even if stones have got in between cambelts in years gone by - car prep is the key - if you build it right it will serve you well.

Sorry, it does not matter how well you prepare a car when the tracks that bad it makes no difference. Some of the Mini's were getting bounced off the track and I suspect a lot of drivers were visiting chiropractors after that event.
