SKOPE Classic 2009 New Zealand

Hopefully a thread started on this topic will prove useful. The SKOPE Classic is part of the well known Southern Festival of Speed held each February through the South Island of New Zealand. If anybody wants information on either competing or simply spectating then feel free to ask on here or contact the oganising committee on skopeclassi@hotmail.com .
Cheers

I will definitely be trying to get down there (spectating only I'm afraid).

Do you know if the CanAm guys are coming back?

CanAms in NZ

The Can Am racers from 2008 had a ball, some of them were of course regulars down here in other cars. They are all keen to come back with a bigger field. The problem we always have is persuading owners of very high value cars to put em in containers and trust they are well for several weeks. Those that have come however do tend to come back as the racing and socialising over a three or four week period is so enjoyable.
The 2009 event will feature teh Central Muscle Car group of cars. Not 100% classic/historic but beautifully prepared classic era racers nonetheless .... and a real crowd pleaser.
Cheers

Well good luck with the persuading Paul, I look forward to another excellent show!

Peter, I took these at this year's event. There were a lot of other cars there besides the CanAms, but they were just so goddamn awesome!

Sorry for the lack of action shots, but at my skill level they have to be practically stationary to get them in shot!

Photos of 2008

Some nice photos of the 2008 event are at

Also don't be afraid to search Skope Classic on the dreaded youtube. Some in car clips and others on there.

A regular UK visitor has been Chris Chiles with last year a fast Anglia and a Lotus Elan, we do however tend to get more from the West Coast of the USA I think as it seems a smaller leap of faith from there than all the way from 'blighty'.

Yes NZ dollar has dropped over 30% in last few weeks, even with the woes of the banking worlds that makes 2009 more of a bargain, almost 2 for one against the US dollar now!!
If you have time betwen the races the golfing is good country wide as is the world famous trout and salmon fishing and of course our unique wines.

A Skope "Classic"

When you visit the Skope Classic it can be a chance to meet up with the wife and daughter of the bloke who built your car .......

Noting the parlous state of the shipping industry at the moment, I wonder if there might not be an opportunity to get some good rates for 2009! Perhaps we should tap Leo Voyazades?

I thought of you when I saw those pics Roger.

not to mention scenery, great beers, seafood, snow, adventure sports (bungey was invented there) etc etc...if my other half hadn't spent the NZ travel budget for this year and next (she is there now)...I would be over in a flash.

Re "this Fella"

Mr 275 ...... to which "fella" do you refer? The one who built the car... the one who owns the car or the one who took the photo?

Call me Mick, please

I read your caption as being a pic of the fella who "built" the car...that is bound to be a fella with a story or three to tell

Well i'll be over to flag at this awesome event again.... I started my flagging career at Ruapuna and now being based in the land of Kangaroos and deadly animals...... I miss the guys and girls of Ruapuna and FMRDC, I'm also bring over a few officals from QMROA to flag there as well.

It'll be awesome if the CAMAMs are going to be there..... even if it's the year of the mini.......
