zac510 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Shelsley Walsh 13/5/06 (Aldon HSA)

Hi all - hope I am putting this in the right section. Maybe it should be in Trackside.

I am thinking of hiring a car and driving up to Shelsley Walsh for this event on the Saturday 13/5. It won't have a chance to visit either of the two day events in June and August.

I've not been to any local club events in the UK so I am curious as to what I might expect to see at this event. Will it be an array of open wheel hillclimb specials or will there be some tin tops and others?

I am thinking of then driving across to Snetterton for the ERCC event on Sunday before back to London that night. Does this sound like a decent weekend?

Cheers!

Expect to see a full range of entries from roadgoing and road modified cars through to single seaters from 600 cc classes up to unlimited.

I will be there on both days as I will be providing brief reports for the MAC website.

PM me and I will provide my contact details for the day.

Thanks, that's what I want to see. I'll let you know closer to the date after I have booked a car. Hopefully nothing else gets in the way.

No it doesn't. Miss the Snetterton bit out and it becomes decent again.

Anuauto has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Nah, most of the vendettas are against Shelsley Walsh and 3 other hill climb venues for their lack of full representation of the complete UK class structure.

I suppose you could have 500 entries fully representing all classes but the meeting would over-run slightly.

Or you could have 300 entries and have a handfull of vehicles per class which may be a little dull.

I like it the way it is, but it's good that now an extra week-end can be fitted in there's space for club members to run whatever they can bring, and this is the meeting where they'll do it.

If anybody in London would like a lift out to this event on this day then please let me know by PM.

I'll have a hire car and will be returning to London some time on Saturday night.

All I ask is to chip in some petrol money and navigate for me

Hi RD, I did go yesterday but forgot which corner you were at. I thought about asking 'is rescue dude here' but everyone in an orange jacket would have put their hand up

Had a great day anyway, especially watching the old blokes (and cars) from Chester MC who weren't afraid of no wet track!

We enjoyed it also.

Shame the weather turned so nasty towards the end as most people who had one dry run did not take thier second. Thanks to all those who did.

Great mix of cars, especially the fastest 10 or so who were a real mix

Another great Shelsley event.

Yes it is a familiar stuck needle reponse isn't it. And you know I fully agree with your viewpoint. For the record, over 500 completed runs were made on each day! Excellent when you consider there is no return road. As Woolley knows, I was close to the heart of the organisation over both days and it was a joy to see the slickness of the operation. Now that is not meant to be criticism of any other venue, merely an appreciation of what went on at this particular venue on both days.

And as Woolley knows, on Sunday it was not helped by having the second practise runner of the day put his car on its roof with resulting delay. Woolley, would you care to enlighten everyone as to what the driver said to your team as he hung upside down in the straps, providing that it doesn't contravene Marshals ethics that is.

However thanks to the way everybody pulled together we finished the day earlier than I expected.

A report on the weekend should be up on the Shelsley Walsh website very soon. Trust me, I wrote it!

Hey ranoff, is there something in the rules that stops the cars from returning down the hill after an accident? For example when the Morgan driver got a bit enthusiastic into the first S corner, the cars could have follow the tow truck back to the pits and saved a bit of time? As if I recall, only a few cars went up before the group had to return, inducing another delay.

Not being critical at all, I still enjoyed the day a lot!

Mmmm.... I think that is one for Woolley and perhaps BlackX or Rescue Dude to answer. Although I believe its the Senior Course Controller who would make that decision I stand to be corrected.

I am very pleased to hear you enjoyed it. Please make sure you encourage others to come in future.

I was one of the characters taking pictures at the Bottom Ess Slot or under Vox Villa and eating lots at Alans burger van. Woolley was in the same area wearing the very fetching and practical leather Aussie hat. BlackX and Rescue Dude were at the Kennel bend with the Midland Rescue unit on the opposite side of the track to spectators.

So far do my tentacles spread that I know Rescue Dude was at a certain house in Kidderminster today.

I did drag along 2 other friends who had never been! I think I would have seen you - we spent a while around the S. I think I might have seen Woolley too. I'm Australian so would have noticed his hat

Do you attend other hillclimbs? Which other tracks are close-ish to London?

Yes, I cover many of the British Championship events for various bits of the media when asked! There are not as many hill climb venues in the South East as in the past. Gurston Down is on the 28th May and is reasonably accessible from London. A search on the track name will reveal an informative website. Its a very different course with a distinctive downhill start. Incredibly fast down through a double left at Hollow and then all anchors out for a tight uphill right turn at Karousel. Uphill again over Deers Leap then 90 left at Ashes and a gradual and progressively left-ish straight section to the finish.

See what you can do to get there. I recommend it. Not so much shelter as Shelsley so take weatherproofs in case it turns wet. Good catering by the start area too. A superb venue in good weather.
