Lotus 24

Doug Nye in 'The History of the Grand Prix Car 1945-1965' has chassis nos, 940-951, plus 4 Parnell built cars nos. P1-P4, of which 940-950 were works cars and the rest customer.

There are a lot around;- the Parnell car with the Lola body (P1?) that Paul Alexander used to drive; Alan Baillie's car; Michel Wanty's ex-UDT with Climax; another pale-green BRM-powered car I saw at Coys some years ago; I believe Jim Hall has the one he drove in 1963: one with a Climax '4' and an incorrect yellow stripe; Jo Siffert's car is in the Schlumpf Museum I think; et al.

I have lots of photos from various historic meetings, but can somebody help me ID them?

As is usual with such requests, it might get a better response in the main forum, until the research gets under way.

Thanks John - here is a photo of the Lotus line at the 1998 Revival, with Lamplough's 33 and CTL's 32B beyond two 24s:

and the car with a Climax 4 at Coys in 1998 IIRC.

This might be a little out of date, but can serve as a starting-point:
Michel Wanty 942
Roy Walzer 944
Dieter Streve-Mülhens ‘947’
Frank Sytner ‘949’
Ric Weiland 950
Jim Hall 965
Jeremy Agace P1
Jose Albuquerque P2
Allan Baillie P3

better late then never:
http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/3...us-24-BRM.html (has four different chassis, and a search for Climax engined cars will give you two more chassis.

'947' now owned by David Coplowe, 950 by Peter Struder, P1 by Nigel Williams and 944 might be sold by now. Also, not sure on the Jmn Hall chassis number. E&OE

I realise that this is a very old thread but I think repeated references to Lotus 24-947 as '947' does this car a great disservice, as it implies it is not the real thing.

I've just completed a comprehensive investigation into its provenance and am quite sure that the car was not written off by fire in 1963 as has been suggested in some quarters.

I have a copy of a photo which shows it still largely intact after the fire and have traced a continuous ownership chain from then until the present day, including interviewing all surviving owners or their descendants while it was in both South Africa and the USA. The car was rebuilt and in running condition in South Africa until 1974 when the then-owner put a rod through the side of its block.

The next owner contacted Tony Mantle of Climax Engine Services saying that he had bought the car and asking about buying parts to rebuild the engine and I have seen some of that correspondence.

I have also spoken to the US owner who brought the car out of South Africa (he had relatives there), the next US owner after that and the US dealer who sold it back to the UK in 1998. Its history since it has been back in the UK is well-documented.
