Lulu breaks the track record but not for long as Ricciardo sets a time of 1:10.810.

That was quite exciting. Congrats to Ricciardo on getting Pole. They said coming into the race they looked good for it and apart from Verstappen they delivered. Vettee needed to pip Lulu to second but only just. Tomorrow's start will be interesting.

It's a Red Bull sandwich for tomorrow.
Monaco does not favour over confidence. This track shows up drivers with too much confidence in their ability, and bites you hard when you over drive. You might get away with it everywhere else. But not in Monaco. Verstappen still has to learn this. Hoping for a Ricciardo victory tomorrow. It's owed. |

Christian Horner was biting his top lip during his interview with Karun on Ch4. Bet the air will be or was blue in the Red Bull garage. 😝

Max coped well with the bad luck he had last season, but seems to be driving above himself this season. He’s had an incident in every event so far, although Barcelona wasn’t entirely his fault
Great lap by Ricciardo, he loves this place. Also great effort from young guns Ocon, Sainz, Gasly and Sirotkin. And everyone kept it out of the wall in the qualifying which was impressive |

I thought Webber's comment, that Verstappen was naive to the consequences of a minor incident, were spot on.

There are a number of front runners looking for a safety car so they can get rid of those pesky hypersofts.
I think there is plenty of potential for a safety car on the back row of the grid. |

Yes I thought when I heard that I thought he's a termite that needs squashing. Meanwhile his team mate at the time of his rant was up in 4th, eventually finished the session 8th, 10 spots ahead of Stroll who only had Magnussen bizarrely slower. So Stroll again, pathetic qualifying. |

Damn RB must be getting annoyed with Max. He has great speed on his day, but then makes these stupid mistakes. Hitting that inside wall is a complete amateur mistake that a 4th year driver shouldn't be making especially when he did the exact same screw up 2 years ago.
Can you imagine this guy driving a 1980's F1 around here? So much easier to drive now and he's making himself look like a complete idiot having such a big crash in a pointless practice session when you're already in the best car. If he was so much faster than everyone else you could forgive him, but he's not, his team mate was about to set a better lap. Guys like Alonso and Hamilton don't make silly errors like this. Max is lucky in a way that the RB isn't a title contender this year and that they can't keep up with Merc/Ferrari. If they could then Max would already be so far behind in points that he'd have cost them any possible title. At that point you'd have to ask the question what would Sainz have done in the same car? He'd probably have a tonne of points and be in the hunt. But since the title is only between Seb and Lewis, it lets Max off the hook. RB will be thinking they HAVE to keep DRic to stand any chance of a title in the coming years because Max is becoming someone that is only good for grabbing wins on the odd occasion, not challenging for titles. |

With Max Romain and KMag all at the rear of grid I see every opportunity for the call made to deploy the Frogmen early in the race.

I was thinking the same thing. The amount of expensive highly contoured carbon that is going to go flying will rival the GDP of several medium sized countries.

Not defending Max but you're comparing apples and pears there. Hamilton made loads of silly mistakes in his younger days.

Also, Webber is exactly right - he didn't appreciate the consequences of a small mistake at Monaco. But you won't appreciate it until you do it. |

You might have expected him to have learnt from when in Qualifying in 2016 he made exactly the same error at exactly the same corner with exactly the same result, starting rear of grid/pitlane because he had to have a new chassis. On that occasion he crashed out of the race as well.

Nevertheless I detect a difference between Max and people like Hamilton, Vettel and Alonso. Obviously every driver making it to F1 has an ego the size of Yorkshire, but I feel those other drivers had an ego because they were (are) good. Max has an ego because he has had it instilled in him from birth by an over-ambitious father. |
