V8 in a cossie escort shell, wishbone suspension up front, with bell-cranked horizontal dampers, live rear axle 6 linked .. bulkhead and floorpan in drivers cabin not really modded to much infront of the rear seats.

It originally ran a F3000 transaxle at the back end with a live prop. Thundersaloons was wiped out before Stewart/Empress got all of the bugs out of it.

Now if it ran a Ford V8 (as opposed to the Chevy it ran in Thundersaloons) it is within the spirit of the old Ford Saloons rules - it's a Ford, and it's a Saloon.

Go on Al, let it out.....

Couldn't agree more Al. What's the "ready reckoner" say.... You can build two smallblock Chevy's for the cost of one Ford smallblock, and you can build two Fords for the cost of one Mopar lump.

And Ford rocker covers.....

Well they do make "Mopar" rocker covers to fit Big Block Chevy's (the drag racing boys use them!)

They also make Ford covers to fit the Chevy smallblock, the Cobra boys use those! Its just a better engine than either the Ford or the Rover, one look at the cylinder heads will tell you that.

Well after removing a big lump from the back .... behind the seat to the rear valance and half the tubs and all the original floor, started to stick some bits back in... Spoke to the owner and hes definatly looking at the DMN and maybe a few rounds elswhere if allowed.

Very very nice.

Any idea what happened to the original transaxle rear-end?

I think I saw that a couple of years ago, before it moved - tucked away somewhere not too far from Brands? It looked great then, would love to see it on track.

Brian hasnt a clue where it went, along with some other bits and bobs that are missing.

Its ready for paint now though, just need to sort out an axle, not sure if its going to be a Ford 9 or DANA 44

I'd go for a Ford 9" - but use a Strange Industries diff carrier section - they're much lighter, and what the drag racing boys use (good for 2200hp!). Can I recommend Hauser Racing for that. If you call Geoff Hauser, he'll make the axle to the dimensions you need. I also recommend the TrueTrac ATB diff for ths job.

The only question I have about the shell - is there room for a fuel tank in there?

You see the step in the back .. thats 140mm back from original tank, and the tank has a huge cutout for the transaxle in the middle .. so maybe 4 gals max has been lost .. probably more like 2 gals. The original tank, which will be re-used at a guess sizing next to a gp4 easort tank is probably 20-24 gals.
If it needs more we'll follow Smokey's example and 4" diameter fuel line laced across the floor.

I needed the space for the Low RC Watts link, and also the ARB ,
