Nice one Eric. Havn't ever seen any Gp1 Quaifes up for sale unfortunately, except from themselves of course.

Is that the HT engine out of the wreck? If so you just beat me to it. I am waiting for a new one from Aaron...........

Thanks for the Photo tips, guys. Will have a play later. Only come in to warm feet up.

And when you say 'edit your post' do you mean submit it and then go immediately back in via 'edit' or carry out the 'manage attachments' bit before first submitting post?

Going back to 924s, here is one ready for TB and one for Lemon classic (if they move the cut off dates). The 'waterporsche' may not mean much to those who believe engine needs to be dangling out the back to be a Porsche but the 924 & 944 results at Le Mans were very impressive. After doing some research my respect for the car grew considerably! BTW Grant, Freisinger have a 300bhp road GTS for Euro 80K- and you can drive it home. Actually if you look down the whole list of cars they have for sale....
Mike,

Re. Tenths' posts

You can add the text and attachments in any order or, as you say, post and then edit within the first xx minutes (is it 30 mins?) of posting.

If posting with pics I tend to create some words, then add the pics via the attachment process, hit the preview button to see what it all looks like and then add the rest of the text. Especially useful if 'reporting' an event since one can see where the pics are and guide peopole to them from the comments. They will be in the order loaded but it's always good to have a reminder when writing!

If you are using jpg format photos (and 99.9 % of people most likely are) then there are a number of free programs around to re-size them, though no doubt some will give better results than others because they use better compression algorithms. Some of these are just for re-sizing pics and others offer the facility as a distictly easy to use option as part of a wider range of facilities. Many photo aware programs offer facilities for posting to 'social media' these days and that means they are doing much the same thing but hiding the 'technical' bits.

I'll have a look around and see what there is that makes the task as easily accessible and simple as possible. I know I have something somewhere but a few PC 'rebuilds' in recent months may mean that stuff is not installed at the moment.

As for the GTS - hmm, 300bhp eh? I'll have to see if I can get a deal on some Hirsch upgrades for the Saab in order to hit that sort of output figure. Still less than €80k though.

Peter,

I assume that this is really a Capri that has been modified by those lads from the old TV advert who 'converted' a Hindustan Ambassador (or something similar) into something that looked like a Peugeot 206? Hence the comment about 'veritable miracle'?

Thanks for all the help with posting picturea and I hope this works. If not, then Mrs MG will have to help me out later.

The attached (I hope!!) is my winter project to turn it into an App K car. This is how it looked when I got it to the shed in May 2010 and the crease in the roof is now repaired.

Lotus - got so many spares from my HRSR car it makes sense to turn them into something useful. Wheels, tyres, LSD diffs, head, carbs, etc., etc. But mostly it's just something to do.

I notice you've been weight saving by allowing it to rust, rather than acid dipping.

After much deliberation and talking to folks I've decided to go the route suggested by most on 10Tenths and get it dipped. It would have been done by now and been primed but illness then a winter holiday got in the way and now the snow is making travelling difficult in this part of the world.

The shell is very sound with no patchwork required, only some allowable strengthening in strategic points - the rust is just a bit of surface rust.

The shell came a few years ago with the original wings plus 2 new unused Ford wings and a sound bonnet, boot and doors. It was stored in a three sided barn for 3 years and a gale blew a large branch through the open side and on to the roof causing the crease - how unlucky can you get?

What's best for cages? For 40 years I've always used bolt in cages but welded in cages seem to be the current thing. Any thoughts?

I tend to use a bolt in cage and weld brackets to strategic points around the A+B pillars if they are allowed for the series.

Welded in for rigidity but costs lots more. I was talking to a mate on this the other day when I was thinking of doing the Carlton (idea shelved now) and he recons the only proper way to do it to have the roof off or you cannot get the tubes close enough to the bodywork and get a full weld. I bet half the cars out there with welded cages have not been fully welded, I saw the remains of one from a Camaro what a bodge, 50% welding in places!

Having got two with welded cages, prefer bolt in, done as Gordon says. Both my Escorts are like that, and fact that can be removed for accident repair or left out when building the car swings it for me. Although accept with all clever stuff they do nowadays with welded multiple tubing like a 3 dimensional web how stiff they can make a shell, that ain't correct for historic.....

I gather there is little historic or indeed possibly correct with the front running L-C's, which is probably why they sell for so much!!!

I've had a few cages welded in, with additional tabs on A and B posts secured with bolts . . .then you can remove them for 'FiA' events ( ie they stay there forever!!!)

the better cage makers can get custom built cages very tight, far better than anything off the shelf and bolt in.

On a budget however you can get a very good compromise betwixt the two.

Eric, I have a set of brand new fully floating hubs for the English Atlas axle (less half shafts) that I brought a while back. I was going to use them on an Anglia project but found they are pretty heavy for a lowish powered car. Ideal for a high BHP/torque race or rally job though.
If you or anybody else is interested just PM me.

924s are ideal for this class, too & we have had a couple race with us regularly.
