Thundersports should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Longest flames in Rallycross ever!?

Here's something different! I think watching Terry Briggs "Clio" lapping Lydden on Monday I experienced the longest and largest "flame outs" on the over-run I have ever seen in nearly 25 years of spectating, anyone got any pics or can think of another example?

Laurent Terroitin's xsara at the 2004 grand prix at croft was pretty impressive.

I would say Welch in teh Astra aswell to be honest, or occasionally in teh Xtrac Escort aswell.
Also the 205's were always flaming out, especially Mattis, every time the throttle was closed.

Others were Gary Bakers RS, Dimis Audi, the Iversen car did a bit.

My fave though was at Lydden in I think 89, Sven Lestander had changed an engine in his S1 (how much!!) and was running it in on the rollers before the meeting.
I was watching him and he ushered me over and was telling me what he was doing, then after the engine was warm he turned up the boost to check the water pressure and hoses under high power and I went to the back of the car and got my boots singed by the 2 foot flames!!

Fabulous memory!!

Also looking in Iversens car after a heat, the exhaust was a huge collector box and the whole inside was white hot, amazing stuff!! grea smells and sounds!

Welchie

6ft Flames from welch exiting the hairpin at cadwell I remember that well
although it might of had something to do with the fire that started to melt the bottom of the door he just about got out! same meeting Doran Debut the much loved RS200.
But I would say Alamaki and the Lancia Delta at lydden was the longest Flame i had seen in the Uk although Phillipe Wambergue in the T16 at Euro round in France was very close god that was a knackering day!

shhh has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Anyone remember this guy from a few years back, KFC Rallysport or something I think?

Anyhow he was a good man to spit out the flames!

I was surprised to see the Xsara spitting flames, as Hansen's one almost never did...

John Welch`s Mk2 Turbo Escort with the high wing, pounding across the knife-edge/ridgeway as the light started to fade on a winter rallycross event at Brands, sticks in my mind for large flames

Was just thinking about Schanche in the same car at Lydden at dusk lighting up the trees around paddock. Used to be a lot more trees then.

Bmw M3

I remember the Yellow BMW M3 (second model) from Erricsson (i think) ERC event in Ingelmunster, Belgium, in the early '90s.
The car looked completely standard, just a number on the doors, but off course it wasn't...

Most peoples where thinking the car was on fire, it just keeps burning and burning... I have no pictures from it, not even from the car. Never seen the car again either.

Maiby it went up in its own flames.

Somebody else has a photo from that car?

Find it here with 2.5m of flames...

By the way, Bengt Ekström is the daddy of German Touring Car championship racer (and sometimes WRC pilot) Mattias Ekström.
