Blame the Indonesians. I bet that the Durban track was constructed by South Africans and the Beijing track was constructed by Chinese. Go figure.

I almost had a heart attack!

The Durban track was good, but the Beijing street race was an absolute farce...

I see now that the further Pakistan delay is buried well down in the official Taupo preview with no reason given. Surely the future of that franchise now needs to be called into doubt.

Beijing may have been a farce but it was still actually built...

As for Pakistan, I doubt it takes 3 and a half months to extend a car, although maybe I'm wrong.

Regarding the Pakistan car, it certainly does not take three months to extend a chassis, BUT, it costs a lot lot of money as you have to rehomologate the chassis and pass the crash tests again.

GBR have always been one of the slowest to announce drivers. Considering how long it takes to fly to NZ and overcome jet lag I presume they know who is driving - just have not told anyone!
Germany, Pakistan, and GBR ........................you dont have to wait for the offical website ..........................trust me there will be no GBR ,................and its nothing to do with Danny Watts having a baby, ............................they do have other drivers

I THINK CASH IS A1GP'S PROBLEM ON THE WHOLE. I hope that "Santa Claus" is still about!

Actually, it's lack of licenced products and/ or merchandise if you ask me. The management of A1GP is still running A1GP asif it's a mining company instead of a racing series.

Don't think you sell $500 mill US worth of licenced product in 3 years. I think its more a lack of teams being responsible enough to go out and develop relationships with potential backers over the last 4 years. The massive investment of new cars and Ferrari engines at a time of economic restriction on top has just about crippled its cash flow.

Not the way A1 is handling things.. Ask George Lucas how to make millions from licenced products

Seriously, A1 is now in it's 4th year, and it took 1 year for the Scalextric cars to arrive, 2 and a half year before the first miniatures arrived ( 1/43 scale from Amalgam), and about 1 and a half year before the series had official merchandise, which is only available online and on racedays.

The only official A1 merchandise available at the start of the season was a cap. Team Netherlands does have teamgear that is available online, and was available, briefly, in the Heineken shop in Amsterdam.

The only licenced products around at the moment are the 500 euro TW Steel watches., Amalgam stopped producing miniatures after 7 cars as their licence expired appearantly and the same goes for Scalextric.

No wonder they are not making money from merchandise and/ or licenced products... there simply aren't any!

The merchandise is quite nice though. I have a GBR team shirt at home signed by Surtees & Kerr.

I know: I have 3 team Netherlands shirts (years 2, 3 and 4). I chose not to have them autographed.

Interesting interview (again) with new German team owner Rolf Beisswanger in Motorsport-total.com

In short:
Andre Lotterer will be driving in Portugal
Team Germany is looking for and talking to sponsors
Team Germany is looking for and talking to various media (Something Willi Weber never did).

For those not fluent in German, you may want to run that through babelfish or something like that.

Does that mean they currently do not have any sponsors at all or are looking for extra ones?

Likewise does that mean that they currently have zero media profile?

Will be interesting to see how Lotterer goes after disappearing to Japan these last couple of years. Hopefully if he does well it will introduce A1GP a little bit to the Japanese audience as well.

At this moment, Hugo Boss is the only sponsor for team Germany, but one of the companies interested is DAX listed.. will be interesting

Since their theme will be 'Made in Germany' and we probably should rule out car companies, I came up with the following plausible candidates:

Bayer
BASF
Deutsche Post
Deutsche Telekom
E.ON
Henkel
Linde
RWE
Siemens
Thyssen/Krupp

Believe me: any of those would look good on that car
