Where Are They Now ????

Over the last few months while watching and re watching all my old, Bathurst Tapes , Touring Car tapes , reading the books for the umpteenth time and looking at all of my memorabillia. I realised there are heaps of drivers who I have not heard about for ages.

Have they quitely Passed away and gone to the Big racetrack in the sky ??

Are they living next door to you ??

Have they just vanished into the wilderness???

Garbo should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Tool Man,
Some of this could be a little out of date and is only from memory (which is getting worse by the day), but here goes,
Until a couple of years ago, David and Bill Attard still showed up at times with the Bob Tindal Prepared VS Commodore. This car was also driven in last years Konica series by Ric Shaw, who runs a rotary workshop/dealership in Sydney.
Phil Alexander ran Alexander Rotary in Sydney.
A few years ago John Leeson was running Sports Sedans.
Mal Rose is still around the tracks and is in charge of the Mitsubishi Mirage Series. He also runs a "Ride of your Life" business, where you pay for rides in a V8 Supercar.
Bill Sieders was running the Konica Series and his family owns a business in Windsor NSW specialising in MAN Trucks. They are also involved in Truck Racing.
Laurie and Mick Donaher are still around. Mick has occasional outings in the Commodore as well as running the V8 Brute series. Laurie has a group Nc Mustang that makes very infrequent appearances.
Bill O'Brien owns Everlast Automotive in Canberra, has a couple of the old cars around. His son Peter was running a very quick group Nc XY GT a couple of years ago.
The Geogehan boys are both still around, Leo is with CAMS in NSW. Ian, still one of the greatest drivers I have seen, and Leo Have both been guests of honour at historic meetings at Eastern Creek in the last couple of years, reunited with some of their cars and doing demo laps. The same goes for "Uncle Frank" (Frank Gardner), who still has the dry wit and towelling hat.
Ray Gulson owns Canberras' Alfa Dealership, which nowadays is mainly run by son Graham and daughter Tania.
Last time I heard, "Sluggo" (John Harvey) had a senior position with HSV and you still saw him around at meetings.
Until 3-4 years ago, Darren Pate was running a sports sedan, a Toyota Lexcen (VP Commodore).
Garry Wilmington is (was? I heard there was a disagreement with the owners) manager of Wakefield Park and playing around with a few toys including burnout cars, V8 sedans (Ex Auscar) and Supercars.
Simon Emerzidis was still making millions from his earthmoving and waste bin business. His stable of toys included a Lambo Diablo, Bmw 850, Ex HRT Commodore, Ex GSR Falcon, drag cars, HQ's and Harleys.
Isn't Ian Palmer the one with the Brabham Honda NSX in Nations Cup?
Wayne Park was still preparing race cars in Queensland (along with the odd drive in Porsches and Ferraris until a couple of years ago).
Bob Pearson is running an Rx7 in GTP after recovering from a huge testing shunt at Oran Park which kept him out of racing for aquite a while.
Bruce Stewart is seen occasionaly with a group Nc Torana XU1.
Greg Toepfer had a V8 HQ group Nc last year. "Trophy" has been around in various things like HQ's and previously group Nb EH Holdens for years.
Geoff Leeds was the manager at Oran Park a couple of years ago, but left. I am not sure what he is up to now. He had worked with dealerships in the Parramatta area.
David Ratcliffe was in a VS last year in the Konicas.
As I remember, a few years ago, Barry Seton was working as an engine man with one of the V8 Teams(I'm pretty sure it was not Glens' either).
Warwick Rooklyn won last years Formula 2 Australian Rally Superseries in a Daihatsu Charade. He is also an accomplished yachtsman.
Asell as racing historics, a few years ago Brian Sampson was circuit safety officer with CAMS. Whether he still is or not, I don't know.
Keith Carling was a long time Sports Sedan competitor. I haven't heard of him for a while now.
Jeff Barnes is still a wild man driving a Pontiac Firebird Sports Sedan. He moved from Lithgow to Queensland.
Murray Carter was running a Nissan 200SX in GTP until a couple of years ago. Amazing for a man that Gricey said was "too old to go that fast" in the late '70s.
John English was at Bathurst last year with a group Nc Charger E49.
Barry Jones is involved in race car building and preparation, including preparing Geoff Morgans Viper.
Ray Lintott owns a couple of car dealerships and brings out toys like his 993 turbo Porsche, Viper and ex Carlos Sainz GT4 Celica for the odd race or club day. He finished 2nd in a couple of Targa Tasmania to Jim Richards. His son now rallies.
Garry Waldon was around until a couple of years ago running Vipers and Ferraris in GTP/ Nations Cup.
I was nearly going to say that I thought I heard of Bob Muir running Historics, But I think that was actually Brian "Yogi" Muir, the ex F2 champ.
Hope this helps and I hope my future postings are shorter.

The disagreement with the owners was between Garry Holt and Michael Spies early/middle of last year (year before? Age is addling the memory cells).

Garry is still well and truly part of Wakefield Park.

Let's see.

John Blanchard is retired from racing and runs a successful aircon wholesale business in Melbourne. His son Tim races karts and may be seen in FF in a few years.
Troy Dunstan is running an engine preparation business on the Gold Coast. I think he still does some FF engine work.
Spencer Martin is involved in Historic racing. He will drive a Brabham at Albert Park next month.
Bob Morris is well and truly retired but he popped up at Bathurst in the Team Brock pit bunker. I think I saw John Goss there as well but he probably referred to it as a 'temporary ground-based preparation facility'!
Win Percy still lives in the UK and is involved in Historic racing. I believe that he is racing a Jaguar at PI next month.
Drew Price operates DPE in Melbourne, which is the country's largest manufacturer of karts.
Brian Sampson is still racing open wheelers. I think he owns a number of cars and a mate told me he recently raced in a Porsche 944 race at PI.

Kerry Bailey's Nissan was built by his team, much of it coming off the Supra. Graeme Bailey's car was built originally by Phil Ryall at Blacktown for Keith Carling. It was returned to Ryall to do the Chev conversion and raced by Derek Bailey at Wakefield Park last year.

I saw the old Carling car at Paul Barrat Motors in Penrith last year, completely white and with Baily on the window. Looked different to Kerry's car. Is it still a turbo.

Ron Dickson was responsible for the redevelopment/track design of the Mexico City track for last years CART race.

David Ratcliff until a few years ago was running a Camry in GT-P

Mike Preston and Simon Kane seemed to be wasted talents. Preston won the 1992 Nissan/Mobil series with Radisich in a DJR Sierra but haven't heard from him since. Kane won the ADC in 1990, did abit F3000 in 1991 and one ADC round, but nothing since.

Brian Yogi Muir used to race a EH Holden in the mid sixties then went to England and raced touring cars over there and i think won a few British Touring Car Championships. I know he used to race a Camaro over there. I'm not sure he is still alive.
Bob Muir used to race in F2 in a Birrana and later raced the 'Army Reserve' XD Falcon which i hear has been restored and racing in Group C for a new owner.

Ian Love - Raced an ex DJR Mustang then a Commodore, Pretty sure he still runs CoCo's restaurant in South Perth.

Jim Keogh - was a solictor in Melbourne so probably still is or retired.

Steve Masterton - I spoke to someone who knows his Dad (Jim) and was told he still runs Masterton homes in Sydney.

Stewert Kostera - runs Kostera Tyres in Kalamunda, pretty sure he is the local agent for Dunlop Racing tyres too, his son raced go karts here in Perth and I think has since stepped into Formula Ford.

I last saw Masterton running in Group E in 1991 or 1992 in a Falcon, won a race or two as well. Prior to that he dabbled with Group A in a Commodore in 1985 after a relatively serious effort in Falcon's and previously Capri's in Group C. Oh, he co-drove with Murray Carter in the Netcomm Nissan Skyline at Bathurst in 1987.

I think Rod McRae only started in one Bathurst after his 1974 off on Conrod in the wet.
