Later Mk1s

The “KPU” works rally cars, widely used in many events and re-shelled. Is there any evidence the Alan Mann cars had numbers rotated between shells (other than initially – see”392”)?

KPU380C Siegle-Morris/Nash RAC 65 (red)
Elford Alpine 66 (white/green/black)(new car). Elford RAC 66.
KPU381C (Later a private car Chris Sclater 69, Seven Dales, Welsh etc) (Sclater previously used GLL487C? ex-Allan Allard Mk1 Lotus) KPU381C now
restored as works car by Brian Moorcroft.
KPU382C
KPU383C R.Clark 1966 UK events (except RAC) incl. Scottish, Gulf (red)
KPU384C Alan Mann 1965 red/gold. Now in Sweden?
KPU385C
KPU386C J.Clark test Bagshot pre-66 RAC
KPU387C
KPU388C
KPU389C
KPU390C Alan Mann 66 red/gold
KPU391C Alan Mann 66 red/gold
KPU392C Alan Mann 65 (Whitmore ETCC winner). Was first appearance of “392” on a white/green car at Mont Ventoux 65? Was this actually a 64 A bracket car because leaf springs had still not been homologated by that event or was it the “real” 392 not yet painted red/gold? (and was it A bracket or the not yet homologated leaf springs??)

KPU393C Team Lotus standard road car 65. Later a Mann race car?
Reg No carried by Simon Drabble’s Mann-colours race car 2006 but is not the actual reg no of that car's V5.

KPU394C
KPU395C Elford Alpine 65 red No74. Elford 65 RAC? (3rd)
KPU396C Team Lotus 65 race?(leaf spring) (Reg no from Chapman’s w/off road car?)
KPU397C
KPU398C

NNO634C Press/PR vehicle Oct 65 (now Moorcroft 65 works replica)

PHK614D Team Lotus 66 (Group 5)
PHK615D Team Lotus
PHK616D Team Lotus

NVW240C Monte 66 (Group 1) Soderstrom No 205 lhd.
G.Robson records this car as then used in Gp2 spec by Elford on Rally of Flowers (later to be known as San Remo). Believe Elford Flowers car was Gp1 and rhd.

NVW242C Monte 66 (Group 1) Elford No 223.
NVW243C Monte 66 (Group 1) Clark No75
NNO822C Monte 66 (Group1) Ljungfeldt/Rehnfeldt No29
NNO761C Monte 66 (Group1)?
Elford 66 Tulip No60 Gp2. Elford 66 Acropolis Gp2.
NNO821C Monte 66 (Gp1) Procter/Mabbs No7. Melia 66Gulf Gp2.
? Monte66 (Gp1) Greder No184 (works?).

(New Gp2 cars built for 66 Alpine. First Lotus works rally cars in white/green/black bonnet and first use of Minilites. All previous works rally cars red except white Safari cars)

NVW239C RAC 66 Soderstrom 1st
NVW241C RAC 66 J.Clark rhd (Robson says used by Soderstrom 66 Monte but if so was converted to rhd and became white/green) (shell scrapped after RAC)
NVW242C Rhd, white/green, No 54 Alpine 66 (R.Clark?) RAC 66 R.Clark?
(Elford in KPU380C on Alpine and RAC)

?(Swedish reg) Swedish 67 Soderstrom/Palm 1st (was works Mk1 Lotus)

550VAR J.Clark road car, ex Lotus development car (Elan irs, rear discs)

There's quite a lot I can add but all my papers are in storage at the moment.

One intriguing question for Cortina spotters tho - does anyone know much about the works cars raced in the US (by Alan Moffat amongst others) in the very early days of Trans Am?

550 VAR still exists - in private museum having passed through Andy Middlehurst's and Tom Walkinshaw's hands. The rear suspension was loosely based on the Elan +2 but with many bespoke parts

The WIllment GT cars of 1963

FOO 173 (Doc Merefield) one of the most used cars from my photos
FOO 229 went to US MArlborough 12 hour race
FOO 230 went to US MArlborough 12 hour race
780 BOO had side stripes as well as top 3 stripes

Alan Mann had a GT in 63 as well, no idea of the No, but it wasn't white like the others, I've only got a B&W pic, doesn't look red, but difficult to say in grey!

other Raced GT's
165 or 185 DOO or FOO
( illegible photo in my stash )

DVY 500 ( Bathurst winning GT 500 )
also seen with taped ARM 500 PLate
ATZ 100 - 4 door GT 1963 BAthurst Winner ( Bob Jane ?)

Anyone got any solid info on Jackie Stewart's Lotus Cortina exploits?

Also, info on the cars used for the [?]1965 Sebring race where Clark [?] won?

Also, I believe that when the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Minis were disqualified on the Monte Carlo rally in [? year], the fourth placed car was also disqualified for the same reason - Roger Clark in a LHD 'KPU' Lotus Cortina. Anyone know more??

I've heard and read about Jackies Stewart and Oliver racing LC's but never seen any results

WIllment GT's where raced by All sorts, and theres little record of that either, Bob Olthoff for example emailed me a few years ago ( not long before he passed away) with a few pointers on the cars prep and some pics

I've got assorted press cuttings on file or road and track tests on Willment Sprint GT's, and race cars, there where a few POO registered press cars as well !!!

Alan Moffats first lotus cortina (pre airflow) is an ex team lotus car (Jody Schecther or Jochen Rindt-can't remember??)
Now restored and owned by david bowden in QLD, Australia

Moffat also had many airflow Locorts.
A white/green car which he raced in australia...MIA??
He took over the USA Trans Am effort in 67 and ran the ex Alan mann cars that ran in the USA in 66...dont know any history on these..
Moffat also had a light yellow/black car (similar to the Shelby terlingua racing team colors) in the USA..dunno the history..

Jim mckeowans Team Neptune car was HUN-999 (the wheels magazine cover car, bought from Coffey Ford)...I beleive that it's last known whereabouts is in QLD on a farm, pretty much nothing left...

The geoghagan car is MIA, was told that it was destroyed in the 70's as a road car.

Bob Janes car was a special equipment pre airflow car, bought by Jim Mckeowan in the 90's for Appendix J racing (just as quick as he was back in the day!!). The car was sold back to an adelaide racer then sold to the UK I believe.

Been told by a guy that actaully saw that 12hr race that the car was a copper/bronze color with white flash. Was appaerntly built from a deluxe shell according to the late howard mardsen.

In an old moffat autobiog, he states that he was 'given' the 66 cars and equipment by ford to run their 67 Trans am under 2 litre effort...
There were at least two alan mann cars, i have quite a few pics of them and can maybe look up numbers etc. (none of the US cars have licence plates on them, so identity will be tough) Cars were driven by Moffat, Frank gardener, Sir John Whitmore, Jim Mckeowan, even Harry firth had a go I believe. (could be wrong on that, he did some of the marlboro 12hr races and maybe the daytona 24hr). Any other drivers im unaware of. I have been told that at least one of the alan mann trans am cars is now owned by Ross Bremmer in the USA. (again not 100% sure, but he DOES have a former AMR locort of some description)

Cheers
Pauly

another 'period' race car I know of was Terry Nichols, he raced a sky blue LC in 64, apparently in the States also ( possibly Marlborough ?)

even club racer Cortinas must have been fairly scarce in 63/64 ? at least I'm not aware of any Cortinas with long history that still exist and are used
