That's still good going Iain.

It seems to me from reports I have heard and read that most of the GB road network - especially motorways - has spent its time closed for the last 2 or 3 weeks.

I can't imagine why anyone chooses to travel these days.

Hopefully the sort in the link will work and you should see the list with the highest ABV first.

I had a bottle of their Mr. President recently. 9.2%

Rather good. Especially for older folk who may enjoy the result without the need to get up and go wondering in the night. The bottle size is sensibly small.

Looks like some interesting stuff there!

Presumably to get away from it all??

It's not much better here these days. The 80 km/h limit is making journeys very tedious.

I think we here are (nearly) all from a different age, Mike.

In fact things seem to change so quickly that I suspect that my 2 3/4 years old grandson and his 6 months old brother will, in 3 or 4 years from now, probably think of each other as coming from a different age!

I can still recall the first time I saw a Mk1 Escort. Bright red but otherwise bland and boring but someone had just taken delivery and turned up at a Gliding Club where I was endeavouring to help out for a day in return for a quick flight at some point (having recently got a solo licence via a Cadet Force course.)

I was deeply unimpressed with the way the thing looked. Much preferred the Anglia. But the chap had a shiny new, just released motor car and was very proud of that fact.

The Escort started looking OK about 2 years later.

If I was using the Motorways regularly I would serious consider buying some sort of camper van. Or I would if they were not so expensive.

I used to drive all over the place in the UK and think nothing of it, however things have got stupid and I do not look forward to driving on our overcrowded roads
If I have to travel any distance these days I tend not to use motorways if I can help it as I am not in such a hurry to get places, and sometimes It's actually quicker.
I suppose driving around Spain for years where at certain times you hardly see another car has spoilt me

Ho yes! Do you have the roads restricted to 80, then 90, then 80 km/h again? Perfect to trap people. Nothing to do with safety. A good excuse not to maintain properly the road network. Poor country…

Definitely forgiven, then!

Can you all be quiet about motorway travel in UK, please, as I’ve been riding my luck recently- 400 mile round trip to Combe and back without holdup, Kent and back using ‘the crossing’ without hold up...... It’s going to go wrong soon- either trying to get to Gatwick for a flight or Portsmouth for a ferry!

Yes! The road between Hesdin & Arras is the absolute worst now, constantly changing from single carriageway, to dual carriageway, to three lanes, all with different limits as well as villages some 50 k's, some 70's, & with a multitude of cameras of different types & design. I got caught by one I didn't know was there near Croix en Ternois last month. 91 in a 90 (I think!). I know three other people who got caught by the same one about the same time, so it must be new & well-hidden.

Just a nightmare road now & I don't use it if I can avaoid. To my mind it has become more dangerous because of the limits & cameras with everyone driving on their nerves. Still, if it makes money...

I thought it was lumbering camper vans that caused most of the congestion, especially in the summer. Presumably it is because they are so expensive most buyers don't bother to tick the box for 'accelerator pedal option'!

Last year, I got caught by an automatic camera for a red light. Eventually, this system was proven to have wrong settings after many fines. They recognized their mistake and changed the settings, but we never heard about any refund and, more important to my eyes, having our licence points back again. This kind of thing happens on a frequent and regular basis, here. Makes me angry and feel like you could say a mushroom. Le pot de terre contre le pot de fer bad old story.

John, it seems you're going to feel at home with a toll installed in each big city! They are talking about 2,50 or 5€ and up to 10 € a day for a lorry. Unfortunately, no one mentions any new public car park outside the cities. Strange world.

I rarely visit cities these days, Gerard, Arras being about the only exception.

Having said that, I'm off to Coventry tomorrow, & a visit to JLR Heritage.

Fix? It occurred to me but TBH I think a fix would have involved Seb winning and closing the gap. Although you do wonder sometimes when you see Mercedes "strategy".

I see the new hosts of Top Gear are to be Paddy McGuinness and 'Freddie' Flintoff.

That programme's come a long way from the William Woollard days!

I can still remember spending a whole day in the mid 80's @ Farm Silverstone with William, while he was filming a piece with a pre war car.
If we pushed it once............

When it came to the programme on TV it was on for less than a minute and we thought hey ho or something like that.

Noel Edmunds I saw on TV recently in "Eight Go Rallying: The Road to Saigon". Celebrities on a road race type thing.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0bgywnk

Barrie Gill passed away back in 2003.

The last I heard of Tony Mason was when he launched a book of his motor sport memories two or three years ago.
