BARS test - outline the day
Hi
can someone explain the bars test day? How long does each section of the test take? (e.g. written test 10 mins, driving test 30 mins?) hopefully someone can help on the matter. Thanks. |

Can anyone add to this? I've done my ARDs so have a sortof idea what to expect and some idea of the BARs from speaking to a couple of friends. Am co-driving on stages at the moment and driving on Endurance Rallies but going to start driving on stages too.

The driving assessment is just about basic car control and competence - nothing fancy. I did mine a few years ago as part of a half day course so there were several short runs of about ten minutes each around a coned circuit on the loose. However if you book a test only I think you'd only be out for about fifteen minutes. The exam is multiple choice and (apparently) you get a second chance if you fail first time. The vast majority of people pass easily but you do need to know the relevant blue book sections, all the on-stage rules, how a rally is run etc. Providing you are sensible and do some homework on the blue book there is nothing to worry about.

I used to be a S Licence holder (Chief BARS Instructor) I assume nothing has changed so you will be required to do a short driving test and as has already been said this is just a test of your competence not to see if your the next Loeb so don't go mad. I only ever failed one person on their driving and it beats me how the guy ever got a driving licence.
Then you will complete the Multi choice question sheet, dead easy as long as you have read the rally section of the blue book, take extra notice of the signs !!! Will take about an hour in total with a chat with your instructor, we had a lot of people that would book a one to one tuition at the same time, even if they had never driven off raod before by the end of the session they would easily pass teh test as long as they new the blue book section. |
