lotus eleven with a BN 1 LSD
I am restoring the 1955 lotus eleven S1 which was shipped out to sebring it has a lotus MK9 diff case with a austin nose piece but it has a LSD diff which works via springs and plates has any one any information on this type of unit the car was crashed during practice but i have original pictures of the car showing it was fitted when the car was new.

IT has a housing inside with 4 coil springs and pushes on flat discs

I have taken it apart and the two housings are spring loaded (4 springs)and push on the planet gears locking them. I cannot load pics as the forum does not allow me.

On further investigation the planet gears are pined to cones which are pushed outward on the diff husing.

Like an old torque style diff? the car isn't a 55', must be a 56, 7,8. Interesting potential. Do you have a chassis plate?

Yes the car is 1956 and yes i do have the chassis number as i have a list of the early chassis numbers from peter brand who was lotus employee and a bit of a historian for the company. he sent me it in the late 80's i have had the car in bits all this time it has taken all these years and the internet to prove the car ran at sebring in 1956
and was owned by briggs cunningham. i still would like to find out the manufacturer of the LSD though. It may be an early auburn unit the company is in indiana. |
