New Kent Blocks, where are the heads?
Hi, just a discussion starter really.
Why has it taken Ford so long to start producing new, "strengthened" blocks for Formula Ford and why does it appear that it was brought about by the American market? Are UK racers deemed unimportant by the Ford brass? Are we all just "an excentric buch" of amateurs trying to keep the original ideals of the FF1600 form of racing alive whereas the Americans now have Honda supplying alternative engines so introducing some competition for Ford? How long do we 'remain' loyal to the FF1600 regulations before we start to question what is best for us? |

On my topic, what can we do to show we are still trying to maintain the FF1600 ideal? I understand that there are, and will always be those with huge budgets and the associated food chain progressing to people with a spanner in one hand and the steering wheel in the other. I want to be able to look after my car to the best of my ability but it does dishearten me when I have to start finding parts for my engine like cylinder heads. I know there are a great bunch of people out there willing and able to help but where are we going to be in 5years time for example? Now we can get (for the moment) new blocks, will we have progressed to iron or alloy pattern heads with better cranks and flywheels to protect our smaller budgets? Do we do Ford's job for them and progress the regulations to a truly club-ff1600 ethos? |

I also have a "brand new" head that has new hardened exhaust seats fitted that is surplus to requirements.
Are they allowed in FF ? |

I don't know yet, it doesn't sepcifically mention anything about new heads (that I have read yet) which therefore has the usual regulation caveat that unless 'specifically' stated, you cannot do it .

I think everyone has the hardened valve seats fitted to suit unleaded fuel which doesn't have the lubrication properties of leaded fuel.
