Raikkonen: qualifying?

Any idea? Will he do his qualifying or is he going to miss it, or what? Does anybody know anything about what the McLaren mechanics are doing at the moment? Is the problem fixed or what?

He had a gearbox problem - there's still a good length of time to either change the gearbox, or swap his engine over to the spare car.

I'm sure he'll qualify as normal.

He stopped on the circuit during practice. Keep up Logrence.

Qualifying starts at 1pm UK time (1.5 hours away) so that's plenty of time to make any neccessary changes, and I gather that the engine itself is fine. Any disadvantage would be a familiarity issue, which should only affect him for a few laps.

On Greek TV they said it's final that it's an engine problem and they'll have to change it, but I have no idea where they found the info. And I don't trust them very much

I have no way of keeping up...I'm obviously a lesser human being for it, but please try to see the person beyond my obvious limitations...

But yeah, if the engine's OK then that's good news.

I can't understand where those commentators on Greek TV found info that it's "certainly and finally an engine problem". Has anyone seen anything on any website? Those guys get all their info from websites. And I've seen all I know and all say "gearbox or hydraulic failure"...

Magny-Cours was his first engine failure at any race weekend this year.

Well the gearbox failed when the number four conrod burst through the block and took out the hydraulic feed to the gearchange mechanism.

Shame, being robbed once again of a straight on track scrap due to interfering regulations.
For the record im actually rooting for Alonso, I really want him to win it this year, but i'd like to see him have to scrap for it.

I believe and hope that if things turn out in favor of McLaren (just A BIT for a change!!!!

) Kimi could even win, or at least be comfortably in front of Alonso. If JPM also "helps", with a good qualy and good race. Still it's very very sad.

Why? Are the regulations somehow different for McLaren? If the engine failed at 9/10ths distance would we complain about the "regulations" making the race too long and robbing us?

If anything he has been "lucky" the failures weren't during the races ...
