Ford/Jaguar's problem is that they have the lofty ambitions of being at the pinnacle of Formula One. They want to be involved and they want the marketing benefits that go with it. That's all good, warm and fuzzy, well-intentioned stuff.

Unfortunately, Ford have shown (at least in modern times) that they are unprepared to take the risk of bankrolling a serious effort to reach the top. Part of that is that Ford are in such a tight position that they simply don't have the capital to do that.

You cannot expect to compete with the top teams unless you are prepared to spend a similar amount of money.

Ford should not be surprised that Jaguar struggle where they do because for the amount of money they spend, they are probably right in line with where they should be in F1 (save for a couple of flattering grid spots provided by Mr Webber).

I think Jaguar and Ford both have a significant part to play in F1, but if they want to be successful they need to get serious about it instead of dabbling - only amateurs dabble.

Until this season, the thought of a factory F1 team giving a seat to the highest bidder would have been laughable (regardless of the dollars Klien brought).
