Notice of being chosen

Hi all, once details have been sent to organisers to marshal, is it always 2 wks or so before the date of meeting, that you get notice of being chosen to marshal the event? Cheers Lee

Usually the only notice you get of being selected for an event is the tickets arriving in the letter box about 10 days before the event.

If in doubt, a quick check here and/or a call to the event organising club can help sort things out.

note: for most events, there is no selection, as everybody gets to go. Goodwoodx2 and F1 usually being the only exceptions to those.

Thanks it's as I thought. Was thinking that if I got turned down for anything then it doesn't give much time to to my name forward onto another meeting. Cheers lee

Think it's very unlikely that apart from the more specialist events ( F1, Goodwood, Cholmonderly) that a track-side marshal would ever be turned away or not chosen, maybe if you are a specialist and there are too many thaen a change in role may be suggested.

I do have experience of juniors being not selected but this is due to the number of adult supervisors needed, but in this case it is with a letter instead of tickets arriving

As has been said, apart from a few meetings it's there's no selection process & if there is a selection process it will be stated on the volunteering form. For the majority of meetings, if you've volunteered you're accepted.

Depending on the club tickets will arrive at any time between two weeks & two days before the event!

Add BTCC on the Indy circuit at Brands to those. Fourteen posts and a couple of hundred marshals means it gets a bit crowded!

But they still don't turn volunteers away. I contribute to avoiding over-manning by not volunteering!

If you are not successful in getting selected for Goodwood or Cholmondley I believe the BARC try to let you know about a month beforehand to give you a chance to find something else to do.

Marshalling at Cholmondeley is not, to the best of my knowledge, selective - it's on the same volunteering form as the Goodwood events, but the form only refers to Goodwood selection procedures.

This year there's a BARC NW race meeting at Anglesey the same weekend as Cholmondeley, so numbers may be lower. . .
