Stockhatch weights ?

Hi

Went to croft at the weekend and i think i have got the bug again so looking for a car but want something diffrent to the 205, and the 106/saxo's as they look a bit fragile.

Are the BRDA/MDA looking to bring in weight limits for stock hatch and if so what are they basing it round (750 stock hatch) ???

If not then i will be looking for a 106/saxo or 205 for sale so if anyone hears of one PM me or i will be a Superprix next weekend

Cheers

Keith is hoping to find out soon, but nothing decided just yet.
I believe the issue is about deciding if the weight limits include the driver or not? but thats not definate.

I think we are all keen to hear about the limits so we can plan for builds for next year.

Upside Down Bug should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hi Guys

I'm compiling the regs for next year, and there will be weights on a similar basis to the 750mc racing champs.

The two details are whether to include the driver, and the exact weight for each make and model.

I'm hoping to have them finialised shortly, but the weights will be in the rough area of the average weights for each make/model that is currently racing.

UDB

PS If anyone one is thinking of building something which is not currently competing, can they contact me asap via a PM.

Good to see things happening on weight limits. I'm assuming that you are thinking of excluding the driver from the calculation because of the car-sharing issue in rallycross? Not sure the better-fed drivers will be well pleased though!

Without letting on any secrets, the drivers were weighed at Lydden and the heaviest, was twice the weight of the lightest!!!!

And we are currently looking at the options for an upper class, probably drawing on the tried and tested rules from the BRDA stock hatch, which has had most of the glitches worked out over the last few years, and the Irish Super Stock Hatch.

what is the current weight limit for stocks in 750 mc, i think this really needs to be sorted especially if the irish and british championships are to have joint rounds again next season as its a bit frustrating going to these meetings knowing that you are stuck to a weight limit and the british lads are'nt.

The 750mc weights are set for each make and model. Their full regs are on theirs website, however, rallycross weight will be less as more can be removed from the car for rallycross, than for circuit racing, eg lights.

Would there be any chance of using LSD's as the one frustrating drawback of racing Stock Hatches is the sometime lack of traction.

I think the 750 MC weights are based on the manufacturers kerb weight minus 10%
Here are some examples of their weight limits.

or S - 1057Kgs.
CITROEN: Visa 1.6 - 886Kgs; AX GTi - 801Kgs; AX
GT - 733Kgs. Saxo VTR- 930Kgs.
FIAT: Uno - 760Kgs.
FORD: XR2i - 875Kgs; XR2 - 831Kgs; XR3i -
890Kgs; XR3 - 873Kgs. Fiesta 1.4 Si -
840 Kgs.
MG ZR105. – 945Kgs. Only eligible on 16”
wheels.
PEUGEOT: 309XSi - 900Kgs; 205 GTi 1.6 - 890Kgs;
106XSi 1.6 - 930Kgs. 106 Rallye is eligible only in 1600cc version and has a
950kgs minimum weight.
RENAULT: Clio 1.4 16v – 920Kgs.

That's a good job or I don't think any of us would qualify

Andy, is the BRDA thinking of adding extra ballast for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishes.

Please, please Ladies & Gents, a little bit of common sense here. Heavyweight drivers do not want and should not be segregated into their own class for heavyweights only. Heavy drivers want to compete at the front with the fastest drivers on equal terms.

Why should they be segregated when there is clearly no need to segregate them. Double driving takes place in Ireland and there are NO issues in relation to changing lead. If a ruling was enforced to weigh cars without drivers there will be many drivers who will exit the sport.

Don't make this mistake while it is avoidable.

Finally, if ballast is to really work, then success ballast also needs to be enforced.

That would destroy the whole concept of the class, the cars don't slide around enough since the class had to use competition tyres. The class is supposed to bring out the best drivers not the car with the best traction...

It's only a 1300 though (albeit a 16V twin cam 1300).

Exactly, mines only a 1400 16v, but would be 70kg's heavier.

And also compair that to the MG ZR105 which has the same 1400 16v engine as my metro but coming in at a massive 175kg's more than a swift

Think this is a tricky subject to get the weights spot on.

Have said it before but I have to agree it would be better for the class to be back on the hard as old nails road tyres. No grip, more skill and a third the price to run a set for the season. Time to think about competitors budgets and not weather a tyre supplier is making enough money.

Tend to agree too - and I certainly think allowing LSDs would take it too far from a stock class.

I think the problem is that there are now a lot of experienced stock hatch drivers who want to drive something a bit faster but don't have the budget for supermods. The answer is not changing stock hatch but in creating a 'hot hatch' or super stock category with a 2 litre limit, LSDs etc.

On the weights issue, whatever the BRDA come up with someone will be unhappy! I guess the answer is to run them for, say, three meetings and then perhaps be prepared to revise them mid-season after competitor feedback.

don't worry the average weight for a rx 205 is about 780kg, so work similar differentials from there. You probably won't need ballast mj1. And most people seem to be off the view that you include driver, but somehow keep the integrety of the car intact.

there's no way we would make current cars illegal, or uncompetitive overneight. It's simply a way of levelling the playing field.

And larger engines will be a new class.

Oh pooh

Just when I thought I might be able to sort out having a go at driving next year as well as marshalling

That would definately count me out then, it's probably a good job I can't afford to go ahead anyway. Oh well, the dream will have to go on hold, until my diet kicks in!! (yeah right )

I know my place
