I know this may be a bit recent...but can anybody remember on what grounds Ken Tyrrell protested the legality of turbos in 1982 at the San Marino Grand Prix?

angst, Ken Tyrrell protested against the turbo's because, as he said, they were fitted with turbines which, according to the rules, were not permitted.
After considering the matter and examining the rules - these did make reference to turbines but in spirit if not in word referred to turbine engines such as the gas-turbined engine used by Lotus 10 years earlier, not exhaust-driven turbines used for turbo-charged engines - the Stewards threw out the protest the following morning and pointed out that there was another rule which permitted supercharging to be done by whatever means were available. |
