Motoring News Editorial
Has anyone seen this weeks MN? Jaguar Car Club is to pay its marshals £10 per day.
A quote from David Kane: "We thought it was time to give someting back to the people who help us most. It is only a token effort but it is something we felt strongly about. We are hoping it is something the bigger clubs will maybe take up and give something back to the sport" The editorial and the small article is worth the £1.70 alone, a token yes, but a welcome token. The move has been organised by competitions Its reasons are that |

An excellent editorial - and no doubt the letters page will be filled next week!
I must admit to being surprised to read that the JDC is to start paying marshals this year. As far as I know, although we weren't able to do the meeting, they paid marshals at Oulton last year - they certainly had notices stuck up in the observers' boxes at the previous meeting saying that they would be paying. |

Must not get mixed up with paying marshals and receiving some token towards expenses. Paying marshals would mean they are then employees and that would bring in all sorts of health and safety and employment regulations.
Many clubs already offer some token payment to marshals attending their meetings these seem to be many of the smaller clubs such as AMOC or BDC amongst others. Some clubs do offer alternatives like the 750mc raffle which can have quite a good prize and the BARC always have a raffle for the marshals as well as their stamp scheme which is extremely rewarding for the regular BARC marshal and is open to members and non members.
