Hand controls
Does anybody know where we would go to get a hand throttle fiited to a saloon car?. I know that there are drivers using them but I do not recall their names.

I know Clay Regazzoni's company in Italy can do a full racing hand-control conversion for a disabled driver, if that's what it's all about. Of course the driver will need to have sorted his licence with the MSA.
If you message me I'll tell you who I know who can put you in touch with the Italians. |

There's a chap in the Se7en Owners Club who has handlebars. I was told he had throttle grip and clutch lever, with the brake cylinder on the steering column (applied by pushing the handlebars away). It appeared to have a standard gear lever.
I saw it at a sprint, and it appeared road legal (though I didn't have a chat with the guy. A trip to www.blatchat.com should throw up a contact. |

I think it was Marc Haynes of 'Haynes Manuals' fame who had hand controls fitted to his Porsche 911.
I have seen the Caterham referred to performing at Curborough. It looks a compact little set up and goes well. |

Close it is Steve Weatherley - and I'm sure he would happily help.

What is the car you are trying to fit the hand controls into, knowing you run a Super Tourer, if it is your car has this ever been done before in a car of this type ?

The Car is an Astom Martin DB5. My father cannot heal and toe due to a lot of metal in his foot and ankle, so he wanted to rig something up so he could blip the throttle with his hand whilst breaking with his foot.
I have spoken to Steve and others and all have been very helpful and I thank everyone for their help. |

Morten from Denmark could also put you in touch with the team that did Jason Watt's controls - he won the Danish Touring Car title last season so it's proven too. Best, Richard |

You could also try contacting the British Motorsport Association for the Disabled - I don't know if your dad qualifies as disabled but I'm sure they'd have contacts who can do car modifications to suit.
http://www.justmobility.co.uk/bmsad/ Also, check their classified section - there's a couple of ads for people selling hand controls - don't know if any of them would suit, but worth a try! Last edited by EvilPumpkin; 31 Jul 2003 at 11:15. |
