Thats not a trade sponsor, thats a commercial sponsor.

I was thinking boring stuff like oil, tyres, brake pads, spark plugs, wheels, paint, air guns, windscreens etc etc...

Not dumb...

The livery is unfinished, just like the PWR one, and there are a few things there already, Air Liquide I noticed.. but the rest to come before the weekend I expect.

Still a striking car, although I didnt mind the old one either

Without trying to start a new rumour but do you think it is possible that Whincup could end up at Dynamik?

I am sure both Kurt and Michael would prefer to remain in open wheel racing, but where do you go here in OZ ?
Answer no-where! I know Wimmers aim was F3 OS but without big bucks no chance. I'm sure both boys want to keep racing so where do they go? Answer V8s.

Serious question - what is wrong with either Formula Ford or F3 here? I can understand not wanting to go F4000 PBH, but what about the other two?

Race Time
My point was that you simply cant make a living here in OZ in proper race cars. There is very little sponsorship money ,
the V8s take most of that and the australian fan only has eyes for the Holden-Ford battle. So if you want to" make it"
here your only choice is V8s.

Pure speculation, but dont think for a heartbeat that a Konica ride is a dead end!
Wouldn't a DTM drive be clasified as a non open wheeler drive also.
It is unfortunate that the options open to our young guys are limited to tin tops when the dream is to race pure race cars,ie something that was always destined to be raced and shares nothing with a road car.But who knows how many young guys in Europe, the US and UK dream of racing a V8 when they get the chance. Still better to have this option to be able to get yourself into a ride and be able to have someone prepare a car for you.Whilst the HYL programe has been shuffled around a fair bit from HRT,Gibson's back to HRT and then it's present home (back at Clayton) some drivers have been able to use it to springboard a career, I am sure that Ellery,Noske and the Kelly boys would have found it impossible to have foster a racing career if not for the generousity of the program.

Panzer,

Being brutally honest about it, though, unless you are in the top 10% of drivers in the country, there is no way you can make a living fro any motorsport inthis country, is there? The biggest problem here is that there is only a limited capacity to absorb drivers and life-long leases already to be the norm for the V8's.

And no - I am not trying to denigrate anyone - but Procar, Konica's - none of these really have 100% full time drivers - they all, in some other capacity, have other jobs they require in order to maintain a living.

Motorsport in this country still revolves around the 'volunteer' and paid driver - and is unlikely to change for some time.

Paul Stokell is a full time driver in PROCAR, but I cant think of too many more... well Richo is a full time driver too, but he makes a margin prepping his own car, while Fitzy would do similarly, achieving rub off for his commercial tuning house.

And the only reason I suggested DTM as a route to single seaters is the sheer number of drivers in there from an open wheeler background that sometimes go on to single seaters again...

Not sure what else Paul does, but Richo has his TMarts, Fitzgerald has his tuning/repair...most other drivers have another source of income to supplement (completely make up???) their income.

I think Paul Stokell works for for John Bowe's driving school, well at least he did a year or two ago.

All your points taken guys. It is just such a pity we can't
send enough of our young kids os to see if they can make it. I always wonder how many Michael Schumachers are out there who have never gotten the chance to sit their bum in a race car. Perhaps there arn't to many paid drivers here either, some in V8 but i certainly don't know of any in our open wheel classes.

Chucky should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I think Paul spilts his time between Lamborghini service dept. and also doing the rounds of the drive schools (Benz experience with Hackett, JB's drivign school, etc.).

It is getting easier now that we are seeing the right classes being raced here. Ask Daniel Gaunt what the reaction to his "Australian Drivers Cahmpionship" award was when looking for a drive OS. Whereas the top 5 guys from the Aust. F3 Championship had no problem orgainising a test wherever they went.

The idea that all of these guys should have had a slot OS is a bit simplistic. If they are good enough all round, then they will make it happen.
