Mercedes Benz C11 vs Nissan GTP ZXT

Hi,

Since these two cars are the dominant force in their respective championships (Mercedes in the WSP and Nissan in IMSA), I'm just wondering which of these two cars could be the faster/best than the other?

Of course Nissan is also represented in WSP, with R90CK.But quite unsuccessful to dethrone Mercedes or Jaguar.

It may depend on the set of rules adopted, although I think that the C11 was technically more advanced, at least chassis-wise...

rcarr has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
How quick was the Nissan? The C11 was quick, bloody quick at Le Mans in 91! Being German and a Mercedes, I would probably say that it was quite a bit more advanced than the Nissan, due to the difference in the courses that the C11 was raced at.

But Nissan RC90CK secured the pole in Le Mans 1990.

The Nissan RC90CK is a very different animal, V8 engine, carbon chassis, ZX-T V6 engine, aluminium honeycomb chassis....and in practice/qualifying @ LM unlimited boost could be used, even in the race, but fuel allocation wouldn't have allowed it

...and without checking, I'm pretty sure the R90CK never beat the Merc over a race distance....in fact, I don't think much ever did....

Mercedes didn't field the C11 then though. Does anybody know why they skipped the race after winning in 1989? The C11 won almost every other race that season.

If I remember well could be that in 1990 Le Mans wasn't part of the championship...

They were boycotting the event after a clash with the FIA. I seem to remember it having something to do with the race losing its status as a World Sportscar Championship event, and perhaps also something to do with the addition of the Mulsanne chicanes. But I haven't got my books to hand so can't be sure.

As for the comparison, my feeling is that the C11 was the best. It really was something else and I think it was probably the ultimate pre-3.5-litre Group C/GTP machine. I'd love to see one racing in the Group C/GTP series...

I also wonder how good the Eagle Toyota GTPs that dominated IMSA after the Nissan were.
