Also have them at Oulton and I know of an Oulton based Clerk/Examining Obeserver who lost his unopened bag of crisps to one.
I wonder if the birds prefer a particular flavour or colour or just crisps? It's also just another of the things to add to the on post briefing. |

A pair of crows patrol the back of the Brands Hatch garages and help themselves to packets from the condiments basket outside the food outlet. Tartare sauce is by far their favourite.

The crows at Rockingham just love helping themselves to unattended food. They seem especially partial to chips...

I've seen one take a sandwich off someone at Silverstone. He opened his lunch box, took out a sandwich, put the box down, wandered over to talk to someone at which point the crow swiped the other one. He was no more than 6 ft from his box at the time.
The ones at Donington are also food critics. Years ago we had lunch provided and the large, hairy and very masculine marshal on post discovered his was a cottage cheese and mayo bap. He was less than pleased and threw it to the crow. The crow then wiped the filling off on the grass and ate the bread. |

Is this a new phenomenon? I always left rubbish bags out overnight, when camping at 2 dayers, but a couple of times just this season, I've woken up to find something has been at it, and had away with anything food like.

Now you're talking. In my home town of Bognor Regis they pounce on people as the come out of the seafront chip shops, the locals stand there laughing.

WHOA!
Before we go any further, I'll have it known that despite what the girth of my midriff might suggest, I bring my own sandwiches! |

I'm thinking of writing to the Marshals Working Group about starting a new Specialist discipline. Birdscarer Marshal or Scarecrow Marshal?
Although I though I'd seen a few of those already hehe. |

Been there for years. There used to be one big bruiser at Silverstone who'd got one of those plastic things that hold 4-packs together stuck round his neck. Rather than bothering him and being dangerous as we're told he wore it like a Skinhead's medallion, using it to bully other crows by flying low at them with this set of rings hanging beneath him. He had it round his neck for at least 18 months that I know of.

They're terrible, as soon as your back is turned they're swooping in. The stupid thing is some people feed them, its no wonder that they're then searching through peoples bags!

What station was this? I remember doing FIA-GT at Becketts In last year and watching a crow dig out one of the incident marshals' lunches from his backpack while said marshal was off digging a set of cars out of the gravel. Me and the other flaggie were a teensy bit busy so we couldn't scare it off. It stole the entire sandwich out of the lunchbag, opened the package and ate half before flying off with the rest. Mr Incident was less than happy with us when he returned, but we'd been flying every possible flag between two of us and it just wasn't possible.
We were thinking perhaps we could train the crows and magpies to pick up race debris if it was shiny enough, by bribing them with sandwiches. keke |

Quote:
Crows = black all over, including the beak. (usually found alone or in pairs). Rooks = have the larger, crusty-looking grey beak. (found in groups). Jackdaws = much smaller, with a silvery body. Ravens = pretty much like a crow except bigger, but I doubt there are many circuits that are fortunate enough to have ravens. Quote:
[QUOTE]I wonder if the birds prefer a particular flavour or colour or just crisps?[QUOTE] After paying quite close attention to several of the pairs of crows around Brands for the last 3 or 4 years, I too have noticed that they have a penchant for crisps! I won`t feed mine crisps however as I dont believe the salt content can be any good for them. This winter on a dismal semi-exlusive test at Brands I found one trying to unwrap a mint humbug behind the Brabham and Stewart Centres!! (which I of course helped it out with). I didn't say they weren't intelligent etc, I was meaning that them coming in as soon as your back is turned to take your food is a pain and the situation is not helped by people at the circuits feeding them so they then think everything is fair game.
