The engine is from roush Yates. Shank also swapped an engine yesterday because of coolant consumption.
I am personally not surprised, though this is a race engine and the problem is in the headers I am convinced this engine won't last. As a ford fan and ford mechanic I want a ford to win eventhough I cant stand ganassi or shank.but what I have seen in the production engine and all the failures and complaints across different platforms(f150,Taurus,flex,mkt,mks) is not convincing and has me worried for the fords.the power is there and its a great idea design wise, but reliabilty hasn't been hit or miss, it's been now or later. I hope they get it together or ford will look silly, should of ran the new coyote 5.0 engine, even that gets better milage in a f150 than the ecoboost. Also I think the bell's was a father and son team, I know they ran Le Mans but I don't remember if they did daytona. Edit:yes it was justin and Derek bell raced together at Le Mans but not finding any history at daytona. Last edited by Lagunaseca_4life; 5 Jan 2014 at 03:48. |

From DSC's gallery https://www.dailysportscar.com/?p=20376
Either they only had the one piece rims on the rear to push it around the paddock or someone dun goofed and they went out on those.... |

I saw that too, but if you look for some reason Wtr used different rear wheels than everyone else last season, everybody had the deep dished wheels and Taylor's weren't very deep if at all.
That is one of my biggest annoyance with the dp regs only allowing on piece wheels in the front and not on the rear, makes them look stupid funky.i like the look on Taylor's dp with the one piece wheels in the rear even if they are not dished.imagine they would look sweet if they had rear wheels like the ones on muscle milks hpd from last season. |

I was watching the paddock video Lanky Turtle put up and noticed that both AXR DPs had the exhausts coming out of the back while the other Corvette DPs had sidepipes. I remember AXR using sidepipes and the SoD car using ones that came out of the rear at earlier tests. I find the switch interesting.
Just a random thing I also noticed is that #27 GTD 911 has two exhaust pipes versus the single one on the other 911s. |

The nearest engine I can compare the EcoBoost to is the 3.0 turbo/twin turbo V6 that Electramotive/NPTI used in the Nissan GTP cars. However, that's a hard comparison because they rarely ran the 24 with it (they did in 1990, and both cars were rapid but also didn't finish), and Nissan threw a lot more money and resources at their GTP effort than Ford seems to be doing with the EcoBoost, or anything that's not directly NASCAR related. One problem with a V6 is vibrations, especially 90 degree engines, which I believe that the EcoBoost is a 60 degree engine, but the problems that MSR report seem to be vibration related. I'm also a bit leery of the 24 hour dyno test that Roush has planned. It's not quite the same as having the engine in the car, and as Audi Sport boss Wolfgang Ullrich said in a video that Michelin produced after Le Mans this year with Audi Sport, 24 hours is nice, but not quite enough to validate that you have a good chance of surviving 24 hours of Le Mans or anywhere. |

Apparent damage done to the Snow Racing Porker...
Marco Seefried "evaluated and released" from infield care center. Something broke around the backstretch busstop area... Also in the busstop area, ESM and Van Overbeek had a shunt. Quote:

Some teams have been talking about skipping the final session if it rains. This seems like a missed opportunity to me. Nobody can predict what the weather will be like on race day so why not do some wet running just in case?

Agreed. Seems that there is always some part of the 24 that is wet, and I'd bet the house that there would be at least one wet race in 2014 .

Lots of cars sliding in the corers, the Action Express DPs, and all the Audis seem to be the worst (couple of the Audis got almost sideways in the East Horeshoe.) Valuable test data surely.
If it rains this afternoon, teams would be crazy not to test. They obviously don't have a firm grip on the warm-weather set-up, sure they don't know the wet set-up. Another engine issue for the Mazda ... I like the team and hope they succeed, but if I was in charge of Team Mazda logistics I wouldn't bother hiring a caterer for the 24--they won't last 'til dinner, I fear. |

The fact he was turning some laps is news and is interesting. Just because you didn't have said knowledge doesn't mean you need to belittle someone else. Why even comment? |
