Motor Racing Legends - Silverstone, 9 September

Last weekend I attended the Britcar 24 hour race meeting, mainly to meet up with my son who was reporting the event, but also to see the race debut of the stunning BMW Z4M coupe and see the Dutch Supercars in the 'flesh'. An unexpected bonus was the Motor Racing Legends race, a 40 minute race with driver changes for pre-war sports cars. There were 17 great cars entered for this although to be honest, they got a bit lost on the Grand Prix circuit and it really needed an entry double the size to do them justice. Nevertheless, a fine sight and the picture below shows the cars lined up on the Club Straight ready for their move onto the GP circuit:-

I will post some more pics later but, for more pics and info. about the Motor Racing Legends go to:-

A correction; 18 were entered and all qualified but Duncan Arthurs with his Invicta failed to take the start.

The winning Frazer Nash TT Replica (Frazer Nash had this habit of calling some of their cars 'Replicas', in period, because they were close 'replicas' of their successful works cars - doubt they would have done that had they known how the word would come to have a slightly different meaning in the modern motor racing world!), driven by Steve Stanton and Brian White. The car is seen coming through Abbey:-

Heading into Farm are non finishers, Adam Singer in his big Bentley 3/8 litre:-

....... and the John Boyes/Tim Metcalfe Lagonda Rapier Special:-

The Richard Lake/Jane Varley Aston Martin Speed Model which finished 6th:-

The Aston Martin Ulster, LM15 of Russell and Keith Hicks which finished 10th:-

The MG NA of James Brice and John Dutton which finished 7th:-

Peter & Clive Morley finished 4th in their Bentley 3/4.5 litre:-

A fine 2nd place was achieved by the 1100cc HRG Le Mans of William Mahany. There appears to be daylight between the N/S/F wheel and the track:-

The majority of cars were replicas not original cars. This was the reason for lack of entries.Duncan decided to mix specials with real cars and it didn"t work

You may well be right, John, but it was a shame nevertheless (Incidentally, what will it take to persuade you to post on YOUR thread about the Tour Britannia? ).

Here is the 3-litre Bentley of Peter Flood/Richard Frankel, which finished 11th:-

Holly Mason, sharing with Charles Knill-Jones in her father, Nick's, Aston LM 21, who finished 3rd:-

The Frazer Nash TT Replica of Paul Baker and Patrick Blakeney-Edwards failed to finish:-

The Gideon Hudson/Josh Sadler moves up the inside of the Brice/Dutton MG to finish 5th:-
