Snout-I copied your link and emailed it to champweb and asked them why they posted a story that's almost six months old. I wonder if I will get a reply?

Sorry guys it from a press release and it in regards to goverment legistlation that was just past.
----------------------------------------

Qld to host Indy for another five years

The State Government plans to improve the running of the annual Indy Car Grand Prix on the Gold Coast with new legislation introduced into Parliament.

The bill supports the finalisation of a commercial agreement to extend the Indy 300 motor races for another five years.

It also clarifies certain powers of the race promoters.

Sports Minister Terry Mackenroth has told Parliament the Indy injects about $50 million a year into Queensland's economy and gives the state global exposure.

"It has achieved significant international media exposure, which has boosted tourism and Queensland's growing reputation as Australia's sporting events capital," he said.

"The event is broadcast to 195 countries throughout the world."

CART will be back for at least 2003 and probably 2004. But after that, unless FOM does in fact buyout CART, I suspect the V8 Super Cars will simply replace CART.

Regardless the event organizers will make sure the event continues no matter what.

Ok, I'm a Queenslander now living interstate, but I'd hardly say Queensland has a growing reputation as Australia's sporting events capital. Gotta luv politicians. But I guess thanks to Cart there's $50million reasons to try and sell it that way.

To quote from the CART article linked earlier:

SURFERS PARADISE, Australia--As yet another of the wildly successful CART FedEx Championship Series events on the Gold Coast of Australia gets under way this weekend, CART and the organizers of the event in Surfers Paradise today announced the signing of a new contract to bring the high-speed Champ Cars back to the Australian streets through the year 2008.
