LeMans TV coverage

Hats off to Eurosport for great pretty much start to finish coverage. What a shame it would appear to be a commentator one jus has to do it for years and probably be cheap....

The commentary has been non stop inane, badly researched and plain dull with the exception of Jeremy Shaw who clearly knows his stuff.

Messers Haven and Cole just drone on about stuff and clearly do not possess a copy of the rules let alone know them. To suggest that Porsche would run out of fuel or Audi fitting the wrong tyres is just preposterous

As for the so called driver experts one has to ask A why are they not driving - go figure . B to totally miss the reason for the KCMG accident in real time - rear suspension failure - and slag the driver.... Not a single worthwhile Brundle esk comment all race, just nonsense about mates driving and which hospitality had provided meals - dear oh dear. Less babble and more COMMENTRY next year please!

Could be worse, I had the pleasure of watching ads on fox sports interrupted by snippets of the race.

I listened to Radio Le Mans with my headphones and Eurosport for pictures. My dad though was listening the Italian Eurosport commentary and was really disappointed by the ignorants that were in the booth. They were saying things like this "you can't change the driver while refueling" plus they couldn't recognize three quarters of the teams and most of the drivers. They were doing a mess with battle for positions and cars unlapping and so many other things. And these guys are called experts? Glad to listen Radiolemans every race

There were plenty of complaints during the night about the coverage - mainly sticking to 'on boards'.

Ginaro Zukovsky should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The drivers they had doing the commentating seemed to have just turned up without doing any research into the race. Off the top of my head we had them referring to a team as "KMCG", commenting about the "Go slow" areas (and "Next go slow") as if they hadn't read the rules, and about how the new gravel trap at Corvette corner was introduced 2 years ago. As ever they got themselves in a muddle when they try to explain the Pro/Am precious metal system...

I'm also curious as to the amount of adverts they had - would be nice if someone could count them up and see if they exceeded the amount allowed by Ofcom!

You will not complain about the others, until you have heard the Germans.
Insane commentary, badly researched? Ha, they have done a great job in all this categories.
Talking loud, saying nothing, with incredibly stupid PR-Blabla from the "Guests".
Thanks god, we had the Brits also, otherwise it would have been a 24h nightmare.

And I wonder if ES is doing the editing/directing by a random on a computer program. I guess there was no human being involved.

Pretty annoying commercial breaks for a Pay-TV, too.

But, it could be worth. It could be a black screen. So we all should be happy - in a way...

I had fox sports on tv and switching back and forth aco app and fox sports go during commercials. I ended using the fox go app for the seven hours it was on fs2, and it worked better than I thought, but those guys have always been annoying so I used to it,and there was no stupid commercials like in tusc.i don't know who was commentating the aco app but they where hit and miss at times

Also be thankful that one of the worst commentators was on cycling commentary duties for Eurosport.

I was happy enough with Eurosport. Eurosport is a mass audience broadcaster so their commentary is going to be more generalist, positioned towards a general audience and less exacting than say RLM who have analysts who go into great detail that the avid sportscar fan demands. Eurosport also only do one 24 hour broadcast a year so I'm not surprised they crumble into tired socialising and giggling at each other's brain fade whereas RLM was basically set up to cover punishing endurance events, regularly do so and are better at staying in the right frame of mind for the duration. The general fan was well served with Eurosport's effort this year I think.

On boards because most camera operators were not working through the night. On boards and robocams.

The GTE-Pro battle was very well covered with the on-board cameras during the night. I didn't feel short changed in that sense by any means.
