Poor man. He knew so much about obscure F1 stories. Rest in peace.

Really awful news and a... strange sounding accident.

Such a pity that such a great mind left F1 the way he did. And now this.

RIP.

P38 in workshop has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Nigel was a man who made cars work as well as they possibly could, and much better than they might have done.Along the way others have benefitted from his abilities.RIP.

Nigel Stepney

Well, his career had many highs and a devastating low...

I guess the story is that his wife was the one who brought the Ferrari documents to a photocopy shop and hence the "scandal" was initially discovered. He was convicted for sabotage for one of their own cars. These are pretty much inexcusable events that are hard to forget.

I want to remember the positives where he definitely played a dominant role in Ferrari's winning ways. Not that I know each and every head mechanic on the F1 teams, but Nigel Stepney's name was often mentioned during race coverage. I am guessing the reason for that is because he stood out and was good at what he did. Ferrari was known for their fast pit stops and Stepney's name was always in the mix. I remember like yesterday when Schumacher pulled away too soon from the pits taking out Stepney with the rear tire.

RIP.

At the time of the spy story his name was very familiar here in Italy.
If I well remember he was involved (or responsible) in Eddie Irvine's wrong pit stop which caused the loss of his world champion, this was an episode
never clearified...
RIP

To be fair, I'm not sure that Irvine's world championship loss could be put down to this incident alone.

RIP Nigel. When I first started working at Ford, in 1992, it turned out my boss was Nigel's then Father in Law. Not long after, he moved to Ferrari, from, I think, Nelson Piquet Racing...
I was pleased to see him rebuilding his career, in FIA GT.
Now this terrible news.
Sad day.
