I couldn't think of a better name so I went with ******. Back to the rolling starts, they had to have the rolling start for the feature race to allow more starters. With both classes in the feature race it would have meant not letting half the production grid start which would ruin the championship.

***** is right about the numbers starting, most circuits are liscence for about 20% more cars when doing a rolling start than a standing start.

However, I agree with Rick that rolling starts just allow the first corner accident to happen quicker...

There are some tracks used (Thruxton springs to mind) where there is a tight corner quite close to the start line. This leads to th opportunity for major shunts before the start. I remember seeing a production saloon race at Silverstone on the old club circuit (where Woodcote was a 100 degree right hander). As it was an hour enduro they were running all four classes together , rather than splitting A&B and C&D as was common practice at the time. So they had this 40 car field streaming through Woodcote side by side, and of course by the time you got to row 10 they knew the lights were already green and the race had started. Unfortunately, someone spun in the middle of the grid and there was absolute carnage.

Something to look forward to this season, rolling starts, much safer
