V8STAR Teams? What is the future?

The German V8STAR silhouette touring car series has been forced to cancel its racing programme in 2004, citing a lack of commercial partners and poor economic conditions. Now, What are the teams thinking to do next season? Irmscher Motorsport? Zakspeed? Ryll Racing? Wiechers Sport? MIS Sport Promotion? GAG Racing Team?

I think the only solution for them is to run in the BTCC, ETCC or the DPM.

I believe Zakspeed is trying to court Opel to run a DTM team? The most logical/reasonable/ideal result would be to run as independents in the DTM. Bring back the early to mid 90s DTM!! 30 car plus starting grids!!

I spoke to the PR-manager of Opel yesterday, and I asked him if Rosberg had a chance to run with Opel as a team because Rosberg said they were talking to Opel about that. But he said that they would only run in the DTM with Holzer, Phoenix and Euroteam, so that excludes Zakspeed as well as any other team.

Unless the manufacturers were to create a privateer class? Since the old DTM coupes were built already, they should make them cheaply available to privateer teams. This way, they could recoup some of their costs as well as get free PR from teams racing each manufacturer's respective vehicles?

Am I wrong or Team Wiechers Sport will enter one BMW 320i (S-2000), in DMSB Produktionswagen-Meisterschaft?

Yes, they will. Wiechers Sport was also a DTC- Team with 2 BMW 320i (Drivers: Michael Gerhard and Thomas Winkelhock), so I think these two cars will be tuned up and will be racing in the DPM. Wiechers Sport was no "real" V8-STAR- TEam, it is a personal Sponsor of Dirk Adorf. The Wiechers- V8-STAR had been run by Sargarage.

Euro GT Series investigates participation of the race cars of the German V8-Star Series into the 2004 Euro GT races. When sufficient cars are available, they can form a separate Class on the Euro GT grid and have their own points classification. A programme of eight rounds is being prepared for 2004 with two races of 45 minutes during each event.

I heard the V8STAR isnt at its very end.
There is a chance for it to return in 2005 (if teams get cars on the grids and interest increases), and I hope it does.

Heard that before. The NATCC would take a hiatus in '98 and return in '99. Sighhh... OTOH, the DTM managed to stage a remarkable comeback in '00!
So there is hope!

Hmmm... Team Rosberg - Opel link is quite interesting. I believe Rosberg has said that they won't race Mercedes anymore...

There are rumours Rosberg would be "works-" Team for Opel in DTM and Formula3.

But- as I said- just rumours...
