jukkha should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Where would the Porsche RS Spyder have qualified?

......If it had entered Le-mans this year and what time would it have acheived?

Having watched the qualifying etc, i am supporting the Pescarolo team for this race.

Wish there were more Saleens in GT1, miss the Konrad Saleen from a couple of years ago.

in GT2 I really miss the Yukos 911 GT3RS cars.

Really hope Porsche will be back next year!

It all depends on whether or not the Porsche would have gone for a fast lap, remember a lot of people didnt really go for ultimate times this year due to Wedensdays qualifying being wet. I would guess they would be about as fast as the RML though, a 3:39 or 3:38 perhaps would be achieveable. IMO.

Though mostly irrelevant since they've only just managed to get to finishing three hour races.

I still think the RS Spyder so far has slightly flattered to deceive. We've yet to see it on a really quick track - it's flourished so far on fairly tight tracks where bigger LMP1s haven't been able to stretch their legs and their only real opposition (Intersport) haven't been fully on-song. I'd back RML to go faster than them at Le Mans and for this year's race for them to be a touch faster than Intersport (but maybe not by much at all).

All entirely academic of course, but good thread nonetheless, and an interesting portent for '07.

I going to say 5th and 6th. At Sebring they were only a hair off of the R10's times.

yeah but remeber this is lemans, the difference due to the high speed nature of the track leaves a huge performance gap between LMP1 and the LMP2 machniery, the R10's are lapping in the 3:32's while the RS spyders would probably lap in the 3:37's at best putting them 5 seconds slower than the audi's and the rest of the LMP1 field or be it the faster LMP1 cars like the audi's, pesca's and the creation CAO6H.

we have not really seen the RS spyder race on a fast track like lemans yet but they appear to faire better on the tight tracks remember mid ohio and sebring the R10's couldnt necessarily strech their legs but at lemans they can, the LMP2's do about 186mph or 300kmph while the LMP1's are doing 205mph or around 330kmph which is a huge difference and the R10 on a flying qualifying lap looks mighty impressive blasting through the porsche curves so it is highly unlikely the porker RS spyders would get anywere near the R10 and LMP1 times with a 775kg car with around 480bhp when the audi's knock out 650bhp or as ian bickerton ot zytek reckons the R10 could have as much as 730bhp

The Porsche would be around the other LMP2 cars. Le Mans is very different to the twisty American tracks, where it excels.

I dont that the Penske would be much slower to be honest, look at the qualifying times for Monza LMS race in 2005. The Zytek 04s set a 1:37.938 and was on pole, LMP 2 pole was 6th postion overall with a 1:41.111 set by a Courage C65 and that was at the fastest circuit of them all, at least on a circuit that isnt a oval. Yes im aware that the LMP 1's have moved on performance wise since then, but then so have the LMP 2's, the C65 is no longer the LMP 2 pace setter by a long way. At the Le Mans test day the top speed set by the RFH Dome was 330kph, the top speed set by a LMP 2 car was 303kph from the RML Lola and RML made it clear that they were not going for outright pace at the test day, and they didnt in qualifying either, mainly due to a wet track on wedensday.

4 seconds for a 6k track .. LeMans is +2x Monza Lenght => aprox 8 seconds => close to the other LMP2 cars

No, the gap between the LMP1 pole and LMP2 at Monza was 3.2 seconds, Le Mans being double the length would mean the gap would be double, so lets say 6.4 seconds. That would mean somewhere around a 3:36 lap. A 3.36 lap would qualifed the car 7th or 8th overall. Thats quite a gap to the LMP2 pole for LM this year. This is all of course assuming that the Penske Porsches arent closer to the speed of the R10 than the Courage C65 was to the R8 in 2005 which IMO is incorrect. Why? The Courage C65 is one of the older designs in the LMP2 class and this year only managed a 3:47.464, compare that to the class pace setter, the Lola EX264 which did a 3:41.555 and it is fairly slow.
