What is Alonso's condition?

Thought I'd make a new topic about him, because it's a bit difficult to know in wich treath they are speaking about his condition... So, anybody knows? Looks like a leg injury...

He's OK, but has been taken to hospital for observation and check ups. He's gonna be OK, and ready for Imola I'll suspect.

As I put in another thread: appears to have some sort of leg injury - exact details unknown - but is "not in danger" according to Doctors.

Looking at the pictures, I am currently concearned for Alonso, and I believe that although he should be in Imola, I would not be suprised at all, if McNish was in the car. I'll guess that we won't find out if he has any problems until the friday of the San Marino GP, when Renault can see how he's affected.

If he's not ready for Imola, we'll probably be seeing McNish in the car, I guess?

It looked like he took two heavy 'lateral' knocks - so I guess his lower half must have been bouncing around in the monocoque.

Ouch.

And thank God for that. That was an extremely scary incident. Were the yellow flags waved sufficiently there? Judging by the speed at which he negotiated that corner, it looked like he was unaware that there was a problem ahead at all...

Eh, I'd expect more that it was that huge impact into the tire barrier at the pit entrance that would have hurt him. That was extremely violent!

Hopefully its just bruising to the leg and nothing more. I do think however that he needs to learn to pay attention to the yellows..didnt he also get a drive through penalty in the race for overtaking someone under yellows?

Oh well..again..I hope he's fine.

It looked more like 3 big hits. Hitting the tire at full speed and then the wall twice could have done some real damage to his legs in the old days.

He's a lucky man after that.

Changing the topic a bit, Does anyone feel that via radio, or because of the yellow flags, that the incident should of been avoided?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, I don't think that it's broken, but you never know, a leg doesn't has to be broken, to not be able to drive a F1 car... Hope it's just bruising, we'll find out about it tomorow i guess...

I think he can count himself lucky for F1s improvements of head on impact protection. I should expect he is very shaken up, with the speed he decelerated it would put a strain on your whole body.

Hopefully Alonso's okay but i must doubt whether he pay's attention to the flag's being waved as he didn't appear to back off at all.

Remember, taht a couple years back, they wanted to replace the flag system with a led system on the steering wheel, if there is danger, a sign,al is send to the car, and a yellow led is displayed... that way, a driver is automaticly warned... maybe something to reconsider?

That would have killed him in the 'old' days.

I think until we know that he was either 1) warned of the incident over radio, or 2) see proof of yellow flags being within his view prior to his accident, it would be fair to reserve judgement as to whether the accident was his fault, or just bad luck.

More than likely. Thank goodness for protective carbon-fiber tubs!

Yes. At this moment, I'm very glad that we're living in the 'new' days.

As an aside, did anyone see the 500 Motorcycle GP at Suzuka. Katoh had a big accident and, according to Eurosport, has very serious head injuries. Anyone know any more?

Fernando could have been killed, even with today's high standard of safety equipment in and around the car. He was very, very lucky.

An astonishing crash; in one respect, he was lucky -- or supremely skillful -- in that he avoided hitting Webber's amputated wheel head-on; if he had caught it bang in the middle of the nose, I fear it might have travelled straight back along the monocoque and hit his head, with obvious results. It was very scary seeing him hit the wall three times, and I was astonished to see him emerge from the wreckage under his own power.

As for Mark Webber -- phew, again: interesting to see how well an F1 chassis rolls on but a single wheel; and also Mark's presence of mind -- the car had not come to a halt before he'd cracked his visor open.

Did you catch Jenson's expression after his nearly-head-on impact at the Senna curves? His body language was expressive and his facial expression was hilarious. I'm just glad nobody got really clobbered in this race -- pending confirmation that Alonso's injuries are (as I suspect) bruising to his lower legs from being bashed about in the cockpit.

Then why did they treated him like he's broke spine? Is it just safety?
