peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
is the ALMS race on that weekend, another thread suggest it is not. Edit it appears it is a week earlier May 11

Also, after watching the long tract at Abu Dhabi, maybe the short track is a good thing

Lap time may have something to do with using the short track, and the short course at Austin will have a quicker lap than the short course at Abu Dhabi, because of how much shorter it is in distance. However, the GP loop at Austin will quite certainly be faster than Abu Dhabi, both in lap time and average speed.

Comparing GP Circuits, Austin has 8 slow corners of a total of 20 turns, whereas, Abu Dhabi has 14 slow corners in a track comprising 21 turns. Looking at the short courses, Abu Dhabi has the same ratio as before (14 of 21), but the Austin short course has 9 slow turns with a total of 18 corners. Also, while the Abu Dhabi short course has three significant "straights", the shorter layout at Austin really just has the one longer straight; those esses after Turn 2 at Austin will NOT be flat in the V8 Supercars.

Trying to pass at the cut-off for the short course at Austin will be about as possible as doing the same at Abu Dhabi, which is to say, not very possible at all after the first lap. There won't be enough of the back stretch used to make a run at it heading toward the stadium complex, and I doubt very many passes will be made in the stadium complex itself. If you're brave, maybe, you can make something happen at the penultimate corner. Then again, i think the accordion effect coming out of the second slow corner of the stadium will stretch things out heading into and through that "copy" of Turn 8 from Istanbul, and the run from the exit of that curve to the penultimate corner isn't terribly long. If you make a lunge at the penultimate turn, and don't make it, you will lose far too much ground to have a chance to outbrake your opponent into the final corner. The straight between the final two turns isn't very long either, and I think there may be enough separation due to the accordion effect coming out of the penultimate bend to make passing at the final turn rather difficult under just about any circumstances.

Let's face it, F1 circuits are bad for this, with all those slow corners, and fast corners that are only really fast for extreme downforce cars. This means that you get a lot of physical separation between the cars due to what happens your time gap remains roughly the same, but your speed triples or quadruples from the corner apex to the end of the straight.

RedZedMikey should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Gotta disagree with that one. Austin round won't be the same as GC, it's not a concrete canyon with stupid chicanes. Adding the element of US drivers increases my interest due to the "unknown" factors of drivers with little or no V8SC experience. Should also help to attract spectators if they use local names. Bring it on!

The ALMS races at Laguna Seca and Austin should switch places, so the V8s can join in early May.
