Mini Tempest - Longcross.
A great days rallying at Longcross - despite our 'eventful' first stage
The first stage was definitely 'interesting', somewhere on the first circuit we lost our oil filler cap, I then screwed up on the notes and we took a split the wrong way (oops ). The car then started filling up with smoke and throwing clouds of it out behind us as the oil escaped from the top of the engine, we got back to service popped the bonnet and found a small fire burning merrily on our exhaust wrap! A quick burst from an extinguisher (thanks to the very keen bloke servicing next to us!) soon put that out. We borrowed a filler cap from someones Focus (thanks whoever you were!) and cleaned up the car before heading out for the next stage. After a somewhat eventful first stage things settled down a bit (once we'd got the oil off the brakes) and we had great fun in the afternoon when we had the car working nicely and the tyres were really giving us some grip. We eventually finished 46th (if it hadn't been for our maximum on stage one we'd have been higher up ) but after the first stage we were just glad to still be running. Thanks to all the organisers, marshals, Allen and Tim for servicing, the bloke with the extinguisher and the very generous chap who let us use the filler cap off his road car Great fun Last edited by BertMk2; 4 Apr 2005 at 08:11. Ah so it was your car Bert...at least you weren't the car that blew up and covered the second and third corners in oil!

We did have a spin on some oil at one of the chicanes too - we clipped a pallet and removed a rear light lens and bent the bumper a bit (but we got the light back after the next stage ). |
