Osella should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
just a random question

do you think we might see the Cosworth V8 that the Williams gives up next year in a sportscar?

I have no idea how F1 and (petrol)sportscar motors differ but I imagine the 'endurance' element of a modern F1 motor must move them closer together? It would also be a great project for a manufacturer to get involved with, now that Honda/Acura will join Porsche, and the Radical chassis potentially 'democratising' the LMP2 class

they have to redesign because the F1 engine is designed for 19000 revs and you cant get into this rev regions with the LMP restrictors. The engine size isnt very good for LMP too. But I think that it is not a problem for cosworth to get into LMP if they want to.
The Nasamax engine was a cosworth one, wasnt it?

Yes, in 2003. Judd power for 2004 though.

Cosworth have already developed a dedicated sportscar engine for LMP1:
http://www.cosworth.com/content.php?...5&contentid=73

I haven't seen this engine mentioned in connection with any LMP1 chassis, so perhaps it's still in the development stage. With Williams using Toyota engines in F1 from next year, maybe Cosworth will divert their attention elsewhere and put some more emphasis into this project.

Don't forget Torro Rosso is also using Cosworth engines (V10). There are rumours Red Bull Racing will use (or even buy Cosworth) the Cosworth V8 next year. Also Midland needs a new engine.

Why were the restrictors introduced originally? surely it cant be to slow the cars down after all they are supposed to be the fastest class. I always thought they had lower revving engines to last 24hrs, maybe I am confused here?

Keep costs and performance in check and balance the wide variety of engines, i.e turbo, F1 based atmos, US V8's, diesels etc.
