I grew up rural so not much chance to go to big motorsport events but was at the speedway every second weekend over summer. (Does anyone remember Alan and Denise Butcher? I used love those pair!)

My first big motorsport event was the 1993 Lakeside ATTC round. The first year of the supercars at Lakeside.

Alan and Denise Butcher, Logan Homes sponsored car were popular drivers on the east coast speedway circuit during the late 1970's and early 1980's.

Missed seeing them racing at the Australian sedan titles at Bridgewater speedway in Hobart 1984.

They are on you tube racing at Lismore, Liverpool and few other venues.

Check out Facebook and Tassie Speedway Memories.

Yes,I remember the Butchers , if I remeber correctly, they were the Moffets of speedway in NSW LOL, I use to come from Casino in Northern NSW and visited Lismore speedway in the 60s and early 70s when ever there was a meeting, moved north in about 1984 and would always visit Lakeside

My first 'car' race?
Around 1962 watching a pre high school John Bowe win his first(?) race, steering a 'Ferrari' look alike in a billy cart race on Best St hill in Devonport Tas.
Been following JB's career ever since...

My first real motor race was when, as a kid, I scrounged a ride with an uncle to Longford in 1968 to watch Chris Amon set the lap record in the magnificent Ferrari P4.
And the bug bit. Hard.

bit quiet

First race was relatively recent but at a guess I’m a bit younger then some of you guys . Calder 1997 Supercars and from then on its been twenty years of love for all racing on four and two wheels. I’ve forgotten a lot since then but still have vivid memories of the night. The spectacle of night racing, getting John Faulkners autograph even though I barely knew who he was at that stage and watching Peter Brock trying to get from the HRT hauler to the garage but couldn’t resist signing and chatting with what seemed like an endless amount of people wherever he went. Is that Centurion tank still up on the side of the Thunderdome? Good times.

Feeling a bit old as I write this and remember.

First motor race for me was the 1973 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, held at Bathurst over the Easter weekend.

My first race as a crew member too - even if I was the gopher and cleaning wheels was one of my main jobs, it was great to be doing that as the young kid I was at the time.

Addiction acquired.

I grew up on Phillip Island. My dad was the local police man. I can't remember how young I was. Len Lukey of Lukey Mufflers was the owner of the track. I reckon mid 60's

Jeez. You must be nearly 120 now.

FWIW, the first motor race I attended was Mount Druitt, mid '50s. I was mid-6s, turning 7 next birthday. Now, it's 70 next birthday.

OP some time in thee sixties. During practise Leo Geoghan hit the wall turning left through Suttons to go over the hill and while he was waiting to get the car back someone took a Polaroid of the car and gave it to him. He looked at it developing, looked at all of us and said "it's getting worse" as the image got better. That is the only thing I can remember of that race meeting.

Thunderdome 1988. The old man is not much of a motorsport fan, but as a 13yo. I managed to get him to take me to Calder 3 times for Nascar and once to the drag nationals.

Majority of the 90's was spent with a mates family following the Super Sedans around country Vic. Tickfords Rod Nash was around then and John Falkner would make the odd appearance.

funnily enough the Thunderdome in October 1988 was my second race meeting attendance, memorable for Mike Oliver in his bright orange Commodore dominating before crashing on the front stretch right in front of us.

Mid 1950's at home as a young kid- one trip up the mount and I have been hooked ever since.
I loved the early Easter meetings as bikes ran for the first couple of days with cars following on the Sunday and Monday. Only ever missed a couple of meetings over the years and can recall sitting near the piggery at the Gnoo Blas track at Orange also at a very young age.

I really don't remember any of that first meeting, but I remember about 90 or 91 when the Super Trucks ran. We were sitting right up the back on (clockwise) turn 4 when a truck slammed the wall and showered the crowd in concrete.
I'm pretty sure it was the last time trucks ran on the Thunderdome.

The HQ's were always a riot to watch.
