2013 Thanks for the memories & Merry Xmas
Well its almost over, a new era in V8's , Mark Webber off to Porsche, Dan Ricardo steps up to keep the Aussie's in F1.
Peck and Reload get there own thread(  )Flying Kiwi wins Fantasy Championship Betty enjoys fan support Missing 5 months of marshalling due to Cancer and the treatment Nissan and Mercedes to be joined by Volvo in 2014 Sadly, farewell to Allan Simonsen, Sean Edwards, and more (feel free to add them in ) So after all the banter , posts, Vettel's 4th , Jamie's 5th, it was a good year Merry Xmas Happy New Year, look forward to 2014

Starting my marshalling season at the Clipsal was an unbeatable way to do it. Finishing in the rain, in the dark, at Donington Park seemed a tremendously balanced way to end it
 Glad I witnessed the start of the COTF era in the flesh. Won't get that chance again! Have a good one. And enjoy the Ashes

The sport lost four people I admired in 2013, Mick Ronke (Winton CEO & BAC Secretary) Barry Peterson (former Victorian Chief Flag-marshal) Pat O'Neil (Former Vic Fire & Rescue & RACESAFE member) Norm Drew (co founder of Avalon Speedway) I learned a lot from all four gentlemen over my Motorsport journey so far and their loss to the sport is pretty much the start of the handing over of the baton to my generation to help bring those younger into the sport to eventually take our place in the hopefully distant future. Best: My best meeting would have to have been the Winton V8Supercars round, not because it was the V8's but driving Safety 1 with the crew I had we were flat out all weekend with something ridiculous like 40 V8's needing to be rescued from various parking spots in the muddy in & outfield not to mention the support categories shenanigans.   Also the excited two hour trip home with my 13 year old nephew who worked at his first ever V8 round. He was on the rev limiter all the way home telling me absolutely everything he did and saw capped off by Craig Lowndes signing his Track Officials cap at the end of the day. He met up with his Grand Parents after school the next day and they tell me he was still bouncing off the limiter then Even if I had have had a crap weekend (I didn't) his excitement and enthusiasm to be involved would've still made that weekend my highlight of the year. My marshalling tally for 2013 with two local Speedway events to go is 32 events over 59 days and some 9 interstate events. |
