Sparky should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Just read the excellent Matt Neal interview in the Ten-Tenths Newsletter. Well done Mark Ward.

In it, Matt describes the preparations for the Snetterton night race.

The only other tricky thing l had was, for the night
race all the teams develop the really trick high powered headlights, which the Nissan ones are £3k each - ouch! As we are a poor independent team we only had one pair
As you can imagine, a two car team, with sufficient spares for both cars, might have two lamps per car, and two spare lamps per car, a total value of £24,000!!! Not to mention the additional flourescent graphics, running lights, etc. This would have funded a complete team about ten years ago!!

If this isn't an example of the high cost of modern racing, I don't know what is.

Presumably, night racing won't die with Super-Tourers. The all-new Touring Cars (2001 regs) will surely take in at least one night race... So much for reducing costs.
