Peugeot 2007

I realise it's a fair way off yet, but does anyone have any thoughts/rumours about the driver line-up?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Sebastien Loeb drafted in for Le Mans, but what about the full time drivers? Soheil Ayari? Eric Helary? Jean-Christophe Boullion?

Helary and Christophe Bouchut drove for Peugeot in their last sportscar campaign, didn't they?

Emmanuel Collard could perhaps be tempted away from his Porsche contract. Erik Comas might well come back from Japan for a top-line prototype drive. Younger guys who can't get berths in single-seaters, like Bruce Jouanny and Tristan Gommendy, might see a factory sportscar drive as a good way to progress.

How about Le Professeur? After all, he's not doing badly in French GTs and he quite fancies a go at the DTM...

I'd forgotten that Wendlinger drove for Peugeot in their last incarnation. In terms of drivers still active who were at Peugeot in the early '90s, I can think of Bouchut, Helary, Wendlinger, Alliot, Blundell and van de Poele; any others?

Like Blundell now retired, Keke Rosberg, maybe his son Nico would like a go, as long as its in daylight.

There are a lot of capable French drivers out there. You could have Bouchut/Terrien/Comas, Ayari/Helary/Loeb and Collard/Boullion/Jouanny and it would be an impressive line-up.

Will Loeb have retired from the WRC by 2007?

If Loeb carries on in WRC it won't be with the PSA group as they are pulling out at the end of the year. With this in mind, if he is still rallying in 07 it could be with Ford, who could let him drive an Aston but i doubt for Peugeot. As for the others, maybe Skoda would let him drive an Audi, the other teams don't do much beyond WRC.

Benoit Treluyer has a factory Nissan contract. I doubt They'll let him out of it.

A hat-trick of WRC Championships with Ford in 2006, then back to PSA with the Peugeot LMP1.

You heard it here first!

There are rumours Citroen will be back in 2007.

I suspect Loeb may do a year in a privateer Xsara then switch back to the works Citroen squad for 2007.

Indeed

IMO an international line-up would make the most sense. A full French team would get less international media attention or fans.

There's a Peugeot update on DSC based on a David Legangneux article published today in l'Equipe. Key points:

The project is on schedule.
Chassis and engine choice have been made.
The design of the car is being done internally.
Contractors believed to be involved include Mecachrome for the engine and either Dallara or Lola for the chassis.
The engine will be unveiled at Le Mans on 15th June.
The car will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in the first part of October.
Eric Helary will be responsible for the shakedown in early December.

Can't wait.........
