Circuit in "Victory by Design"?

Hey, does anyone know the identity of the beautiful, rolling circuit on which Alan DeCadenet wrings out the Ferrari 312PB in the program "Ferrari: Victory by Design"?

It's got a huge amount of elevation change, some wonderful banked curves, and a few buildings right by the edge of the track through this one right-hander (and a green tire barrier beyond a short gravel trap, just in front of one building.

It's a good bet that it's in the UK, but I know it's not Brands, Donnington, or Cadwell.

That's Mas du Clos, Lee. It is a private track in France, owned by a very rich gentleman.

It runs pretty much like the Anneau du Rhin: you need to be friends with the owner of the track to be able to get in. Just very few meetings are raced there.

I had the chance of visiting the Anneau du Rhin in 1998, but I have not been to Mas du Clos as of yet.

(by the way, I am also watching Speed Channel right now...)

Cheers my friend,

Isn't owned by Pierre Bardinon, one of Frances biggest Ferrari collectors?

Hello, gfm,

Yes, you are right! Thanks, his name escaped me - the track owner is Pierre Bardinon. His Ferrari collection is impressive and I once heard from my previous landlord (a Bentley collector) that it can be visited provided reservations are made with proper notice.

The official website is http://www.mas-du-clos.com.

Cheers, (oup-l*, je m'excuse... Saluts!)

I have always wondered about that track. In fact, I was thinking about posting the very same question as to what track Mr. DeCadenet was at. The first turn after the pit strait is great and the downhill bit after is very well indeed also! Great Track!

He is frequently on historic programs on the Speedchannel here in the US. He hosted Legends of Motorsport for some time, and does a lot of historic race meetings, both driving and commentary...

A few weeks ago Alain co-hosted the Speed Channel coverage of the Barrett-Jackson classic car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona.

I am always taken away by the knowledge, communicability, charm and humor so often displayed by these veteran British race car drivers when they make a transition to the press (meaning television and radio too).

David Hobbs is great at the Speed Channel coverage of Formula 1 - his enthusiasm, to the point of yelling a 110-dB shout every time the most minimal incident happens, is contagious. More important, he brings a lot of insight to the coverage (on this regard, he "rescues" his peers at Speed Channel booth quite often). His participation on the recent Speed Channel specials "Spitfires at Le Mans" and "Champions Forever - The Quick and The Dead" left my American friends asking "who is that guy?"

As I now live in the United States, I never had the chance of watching Martin Brundle on ITV, but I much miss the duo Murray Walker & James Hunt... Ben Edwards & John Watson at Eurosport were fantastic too, back in 1995-1998.

David Hobbs is one of my favorite commentators of any sport. Did anybody see the end of the season special Speedchannel did of the 2002 season, at the end of which they had the best David Hobbs quotes of the year. What a funny funny man he is! Those boring races were much more entertaining because of him!

"It's gruesome, it is!"

David's a real character, as close to a Murray Walker as we've been treated to.

Y'know, everything sounds better with some sort of British accent, especially in motorsport.

Its only about a day's drive from the Channel ports, entries are not expensive, but I still await the entry form in the post.

I don't think there's a word that describes the level of jealousy I'm feeling.

I hope you have a splendid time, though!

Hello, Eclectic,

As far as I understand the racing meetings in Mas du Clos are a sort of closed party, in the molds of the races at Lignières (Fribourg, Switzerland - that cannot allow spectators due to the ban to public races in Switzerland) or at the Anneau du Rhin. Hence, do not expect a lot of spectators this time...

Cheers, keep us posted,

Muzza

The autcensor's loads of fun... Won't let you say Hiro Matsu****a or ****el Rotary Engine either.

Eclectic, I really wish I could, and I _know_ I will one of these days. Have to get done with college first, though.

Of course, I couldn't take a trip to Europe without spending at least a day touring a certain stretch of pavement in the Eiffel mountains in a rented BMW.
