But Max (the supposedly undisputed favourite at RB) can't keep on dropping the ball every GP. Daniel was terrific today and showed just how you overtake.

Loved the move by Alonso on Vettel too. But of course, he pushed him off the road didn't he.......

Well if that does not get Daniel the first spot on the Ferrari replacement list then there is no sense in F1

I know his contract with Red Bull is coming to an end but if I were Ricciardo, I would try and stay at Red Bull. Both Alonso and then Vettel made the move to Ferrari. It didn't quite work out for Alonso and it hasn't so far for Vettel and this is his fourth season with them. If he were to move to Mercedes, I think he would just be eclipsed by Hamilton.

Absolutely disgusting safety car timing. We saw the Torro Rosso incident live, we saw the carbon mess live and yet the safety car waited...and waited...and waited until just the perfect time to make a more exciting, dramatic race.

Poor Bottas. He looked well in control, couldn't really see Vettel passing him.

You could argue that Mercedes should have won all 3 of the openig races.

1. Hamilton Win apart from the virtual safety car
2. Bottas win if Ferrari took their preferred 2 stop strategy with Vettel
3. Bottas win, apart from the safety car and the oppertunistic Red Bull extra stop

Merc have had their own way for so long, it's strange to see the rub of the green going against them.

1. We could see live the track was not clear.

2. If the leaders go by, wouldn't it make more sense to call the SC after everyone had completed L31? What safety issue would have been exasabated by calling the SC 20 odd seconds later?

Because if you pit in anticipation of a safety car, you pit while everyone else is at full race pace and guarantee you will be disadvantaged once the safety car is deployed and the rest come in.

I understand that the SC is a variable and that it can affect race outcomes, that's a given.

But there was no need for the safety car to be called exactly when it was. It decided a race when in reality it didn't need to.

i get that maybe the SC could have come out sooner (like maybe half a lap earlier) but suggestions that the race was rigged is a bit much imo.

but if it was rigged then that begs the question of who it was rigged for?

Toto said afterwards they would not have pitted anyway as they were not long into a one stop strategy that was working well and depended on track position. I think Ferrari were in the same boat. They were at the front winning at a canter on tyres that would last the race so why lose track position and change a strategy that was working well.

He also said that they had made a gross error in making that judgement. I think neither the red or silver teams had really considered RBR a threat at that stage of the race.

So yes the timing of the SC might have been bad but it would have made no difference to their choice of stopping or not.

So Nico Rosberg says Charlie should never look at what the Safety car is going to affect, if it needs to be called do it.

Having watched the highlights on C4, I have to say Bottas did well and was unlucky with the SC, but well done Danny, proving he's the best at overtaking.

Refreshing to see Seb dealing with the incident with Max so maturely. With his reputation of losing his cool when things go wrong, this was much needed. Max was too ambitious, he threw the kitchen sink at Seb and was right to admit to the mistake
