No hat trick for muph and no championship lead for Ambrose
Just saw the biggest crash for the SCA 1000. After the WPS saftey car peeled off, up at moutain stright and wnd corner, Murph punted Ambrose, sending the car in the air and almost over the Armco barrier, and causing a big pile up. Ambrose and Murphy then had a heated argument and almost caused a fist fight. So, no hat trick for Murph and the championship lead has gone to Russell Ingall. It is goning to be a tough time for SCAR, SBR, Perkins (Autobarn), LMS and a few other teams to get their cars down to Surfers Paradise. Did anyone else see it and what is your reaction and comments?

Ok well just let me say Ive been drinking since the green flag
Im pretty drunk and will be monitoring this thread. i will let this continue because simply it has relevence (DERRRRRRRRR) but do not let this degrade into an agrument and name calling between members here and the drivers invloved , i am ready to swing the bat folks , so lets debate the matter at hand without resulting in insults between either parties otherwise you may just find yourself unable to post my personal thoughts are "Wow , i dunno what to say until I watch it 500 times" |

As much as I respect Murph, and think he's a nice bloke, I've got to say he was in the wrong with that. Sure, Ambrose was heavy-handed and audacious in getting ahead of Murph, but the fact is, Murph was always asking for trouble trying to pretend he was still ahead like that.

This accident is very similar to the much remembered accident at the same point of the track in 1997 between the Belgian Hemroulle in the Audi and Brabham in the BMW when both men were fighting for 3rd and 4th. End result was Brabham winning which sadly didnt work out that way for Ambrose today.

Ambrose had the momentum and was substantially past Murph. From the camera angles show it'd be pretty hard to definitively say if anybody was wrong.
Personally I think Ambrose had the corner. |

Wasn't Ambrose in front of Murph after Murph's fuel stop?

IMHO Muphy should have yielded. Marcos seemed to give him room if he needed it.
I am sure that they both did not mean or want to cause the accident. I was disappointed in Murphy's personal comments about Ambrose especially. The sport does not need it, but then again these two are the new Skaife / Ingall for ill felling towards each other. There have been numerous similar accidents to this at the same spot over the years - Crichton and Perkins in 198 err.. 7 amongst others. |

What I would like to see before making a definitive judgement is the on-board shot from the Murphy Mobile. That angle will tell the story better than any other angle given to us.

I was not surprised to hear both drivers comments, they will go to their graves believing they were right. I would call it a racing incident, either driver could have avoided it. Certainly a spectacular crash though.

I was leaning towards racing incident untill I re looked at the high shot from the chopper. Murphy just left the nose of his car in the precarious position, really in no mans land. He would have to have guessed with the impending wall on the outside of Ambrose that he would turn in, he didnt and we all saw the end result.
In my opinion Murphy was not in the right and caused the majority of the incident. Greg talked about Ambrose's attitude issue, he did not put the best show of his today either. |
