Invincible should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Engine Regulations could bring new teams!

All these cars are eligible to enter according to the BTCC's new engine regs!

Audi A3
BMW 3-series
Citron C5,
Citroen Xsara
Honda Civic
Kia Magnetis
Mercedes C-Class
MG ZS
Proton Impian
Renault Laguna
Saab 9-3
and Seat Leon

Well we know 2 or 3 are in but could new teams join due to the changes?

What are the new engine regs?? And why would it encourage these teams to join the championship??

SAAB 9-3 hmmmmmmmm...... wouldn't that be great.

My Fav cars are Saabs so to see them racing in BTCC would be good but i doubt they will and as my cashflow is a bit tight too i couldn't enter a team either.

They could enter rally i suppose as they have done it before (Saab 96 Alpine - late 60's) but i think BTCC would be good for them.

MG aren't happy about the changes because their engine power would suffer, so it is reported [Redshoes Racing I believe, but it could have been autosport]. But the addition of these new cars would easily benefit the series, althought any Audi presense would be unlikely!

what are renault doin nowadays.are they doin touing cars somewhere or are they owned by someone who is already competing, meaning that we would never see them.

They are in Formula One. They part own Nissan, who are involved in the ETC technical commitee.

Erm... peeps... the BTC Touring engine regulations have not changed in any significant way. TOCA are simply banning a particular metal from being used, which could have pushed costs up. A smart move by TOCA.

MG and Vauxhall are a little unhappy, simply because they have the fastest car and/or the most money.

TOCA's move should help those with weaker engines. That's good.

On a separate note, they refined their list of 'allowed cars' (which is what you see above).

Oh, and the rule about a manufacturer being able to pick a V6 unit if they don't have a vanilla 2.0 litre one is subject to individual TOCA approval. Both MG and Proton have been approved to use V6s.

I think SAAB's image would be seriously inhanced with a BTCC package.

Currently SAAB have a more business man image (no bad thing i guess), but a touring car team wouold appeal to the younger market.

And it's not exactly as if they haven't the resources as they are partly owned by GM, or the motorsport no-how as their sister company Viggen sports them up to make them go like S... off a stick.

I agree with MrTTraces, SAAB could boost its image in the same way that Volvo did, by entering Touring Cars. They could show off their new models which don't look as old as the SAABs that many people remember. They need to shake off the image of being driven just by older men with beards. Can't think where I got that image from, T?

As for the Impian, Proton own Lotus, so I would not be surprised to see, down the line, a Lotus tuned Impian with sporty wheels, aerodynamics, and the engine that they will be using in Touring Cars.

Manufacturers will only enter the BTCC at this time to sell cars in the UK. When Volvo entered, the BTCC wasn't the most competitive series in the world, and they could show their cars to be competitive against the best in the world. now it is starting to go up again, but with the ETC there, with it's pan-european format, it may be more attractive. If they were solely aiming their car at Britain, then it would make sense to enter the BTCC. At the moment they would be better off in the STCC.
