Sure, but in the meantime there must be a business opportunity to sell the added security.

As a car buyer one alternative would be to buy a car for which there would be no black-market demand for cats. Most supercars for example.

Given that so many are de-catted and vast numbers seem to be wrecked well before the need for a new cat is evident (and the rest are never used, just sit in collections) the risk of catalytic converter theft must be low.

Perfect man-logic and man-maths for justifying some sort of exotic car purchase?

I understood the cats were stolen for their precious metal scrap content not their re-use.

I didn't even know theft of cats was a particular problem???

I can't imagine it'd be worth the hassle to be honest - trace elements of precious metals? As Max said, they're being nicked for that I'd guess, not to be re-used on other cars.

And if they're being cut off with reciprocating saws and/or angle grinders, then how the hell are they managing that without attracting attention to themselves? It would make a hell of a racket!

My - somewhat limited I have to admit - experience of lowlife thieving scumbags is that they generally want to nick stuff as quickly and as quietly as possible. Can't see how lying in the street under a car for 10 or 15 minutes making a racket with an angle grinder fits their preferred MO to be honest.

Am I missing something?

We have 2 unguarded train stations out in the sticks about 3 miles from my house and cars are forever getting cats nicked off of them, there is a pikey site within i mile of one of them and 3 miles to the other. They don't give a s**t how much they get for them as they are getting desperate because they are loosing out from thieving stuff from garden sheds with more people staying at home. They also know that the vehicles are going to be parked up for 7-8 hours. You don't need a noisy angle grinder or even a hacksaw as a chain exhaust cutter will do the job in a couple of minutes in silence !

We've had a number of catalytic converter thefts from the local Asda Superstore car park in broad daylight. Apparently there are usually 6 or 8 people involved with only 2 or 3 doing the jacking & cutting with the rest of the gang very aggressively acting as 'security' for the workers!

Wonder what is making people wanting to steal that particular type of car part? I guess they can't find an affordable one for their own car, so they resort to theft. Still a bit unusual to hear about this type of theft. Any warnings to keep on the lookout for this type of behaviour? It's news to me

As explained earlier, there are elements of precious metals in the cat and it is these that the miscreants are after.

The reason is Platinum, Rhodium and Palladium - and they're not being stolen by criminals for use on their own cars....

Mallory Test Day prior to CSCC Meeting

The circuit is holding a Test Day on Thursday October 29th - 3 days before the CSCC meeting. £250 for the day. See you there?

Sounds good, test days can be as much fun to watch as the race meeting. Bit pricey, but hopefully plenty will do the take part in it

Totally different subject .
With the countries situation at the moment , there has been a site launched to give people an idea for a new career .
https://beta.nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/
Takes a few minutes , but at the end of some questions it gives suggestions for a possible new role in life .
Several people I know have done it & the results have been " Almost " hilarious .

So see what you could be .
