Unfortunately not televised, Superkarts are not "popular" enough or respected enough to be on TV. We occassionally get the odd race and rally UK, but that rarely happens. Such a shame really because they're such great machines, let down tremendously by their reputation. To me, they seem like the PERFECT stepping stone for any young karter wanting to go into single seaters, slicks and wings and with the speed of (nearly) a formula renault. Plus they're incredible value for money, why dont more people want to race them?! Particularly why dont more young people want to race them?!

Anyway, rant over, back to Snetterton and I think the corner I am most looking forward to is Corum leading into Murrays. Corum should still be flat out in a Superkart, but braking for Murrays will be a whole LOAD of fun.

Perhaps drivers were being a little respectful of the new grass and the fact that it had not settled yet?

There's grass? Perhaps some green paint like they use in middle east would help!

Am I right in thinking that new Snet has no gravel traps or tarmac run offs? Esses has tarmac on entry and guess Searpin (that name will stick, Richard!) has run off at exit with the alternative layout, but that must be about it?

Having got showered with gravel before now when other cars go off in front of me very happy not to have any traps at Snet!

Yes Terence they were definately treating the newly grassed areas with caution !!! Maybe they should have been treating them with fertiliser !
It was a good spot to watch though and will be a favourite with the spectators once the viewing bank has been prepared a little later on. Touring cars will be excellent there.

Perhaps just a little tonque in cheek, but all drivers were asked to AVOID using more than the tarmac, obviously driving a BMW affects the hearing!
[for some,that is]

As such, in the dry, I don't think you'll see much action at Russell. You might see the odd slide/spin as people lose the back end going from throttle to brake, but I doubt you'll even see much lapping of slower drivers, let alone passing for position in that corner.

Go to the infield. There are more passing places and tactics places in the new bit than in the whole of the old Snetterton.

Even on the 200 circuit, you'll be better of watching at Riches/Sear or the Brundle Esses rather than at Russell.

But from a driver's point of view, the new last corners are very challenging. No longer high-speed ballsy corners, but very tricky to master, and very easy to lose time in.
Thank you - nice to know how it is from a (very good) driver's persective!

I think Russell ( erm..Murray's ) is a great corner, as Tristan says, hard to get right..obvious from watching the many cock ups on braking and lines! But what it will create I think are races right to the line. Side by side finishes should the leading driver cock up slightly and not as quick out of Russell. Far better than that poxy chicane that was there before anyway, all that did was promote untidy kerb hopping - totally out of character with the fast Snetterton we've always known! 'Searpin' as christened by Mike Dixon in the fans corner poll..that will stick yes. Mike, like 'restyles'...been snapping at Snetterton since cameras were invented. Latest I hear is the new spectator area at Sear ( Montreal ) on the outside bank that should open in July, may be named after Oliver Sear. Hope so..you cannot still have Riches & Coram named, when the third man in the group who started the circuit has been dropped.

The new snetterton

Gentleman all, just spent a interesting fifteen minutes reading this thread, and whist Idon't agree with all the comments,Ido agree with most.Had a wry smile at the "connections" of the names at some of the new corners, but let's remenber that all the names were voted for by the public, hard to see how much more democratic it could be?
Anyway ,having enjoyed the race meeting on Sunday,as a spectator ,I was astonished at how many changes have been made and for what it's worth want to add my thanks to JP,Jamie and all his team for their efforts.
It's going to take some time to get used to the new names, though.Perhaps thats a good thing .Snetterton is Dead,LONG LIVE the NEW SNETTERTON.
Regards to all,Carrotcruncher.

Both!!! Seeing that pack of BMWs coming towards us on the first race I thought we'd be in for some action, the 3rd race didnt look as busy going in, but then 177 rotated and .... bang bang bang!

Amanda Ewings did spin twice, and both times as she drove off she mouthed at us 'Sorry!'

Names were suggested by the public, but the final choice was made by a committee at Snetterton - for all we know, they ignored the most popular 'public' names and chose their own.

Seems they agreed with the popular public names.
You've got corners named after Robbie Williams, Andy Murray, Arnold Palmer, Nelson Mandela and a Scottish football team.

After racing at Snetterton 300 on the 18th April in the MSA British Superkart Championship, I can safely say it is one of the best tracks in the UK IMHO, obviously without the heritage and experience of racing at Silverstone and Donington, but with that aside, I think the track is fantastic!

Here is a video from my qualy session www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUXVLivRyPk

There are also 2 other videos from the races - with 48 karts on the grid! Hope to have a similar turnout at Silverstone on 7th/8th May.

I personally think (although I would) theyre awesome! They represent tremendous value for money, you can buy a complete, competitive kart (250 single) for around 3000 and run competitively for around 4000. I dont know any other class that offers this value for money when average speeds are often over 100mph!

The racing itself is also very good to watch. At Snetterton we had 48 karts out at once and because we are so small compared to the track, overtaking occurs frequently.
