Didn't the Crompton NATCC car go to Graeme Dodd? The other one was the ex-Richards machine.

Absolutely right. If memory serves, the Adderton/GRM Steven Richards car had been a British Motor Sport Developments car. Adderton I wouldn't have thought would have been able to get factory support, the car was never that well funded after it left GRM. The car was associated briefly with British driver Jamie Wall, but after that I dunno. It did have the distinction of being the only privateer car to win a race during the series hayday prior to Paul Morris Nemo Racing series win.

Newman had considerably greater ambitions for his team and after Peugeot said no the story goes that he pulled the Lion badges off and called them... can't emember the name of his team, but it was something to do with the team name.

Adderton driving the Honda Accord came later I think 1998 as the series was starting to wind down, that was after Warren Luff had made his first touring car steps in the car with yellow and purple swirls and FAI signage in late 1997. That Honda was quite old by then and not a serious proposition for factory funding.

Belatedly picked up by what you meant with Adderton, as he had driven the old Foxtel 405s with Geoff Full when Mike Quinn's Phoenix Motorsport ran the cars. Yes those cars were good, but I'm not sure they ever really went after the factory support so much as they had been involved with importing 405 Super Tourers from the very beginning having been involved with the first car to arrive. Peugeot hadn't shown any interest then when that I think Phil Alexander drove briefly at Oran Park before a couple of incidents occurred. The first car got involved in a collision at Bathurst with the Inspired Racing Corolla Seca at the top of Conrod Straight and was retired in favour of a new car which was later destroyed tragically at Phillip Island. The first car was pressed back into service until a third car arrived in time for the team's expansion with Geoff Full coming on board. They never did a full season with both Peugeots as towards the end of 1996 they got involved with the Vauxhall that Brooke tatnell very briefly ran (owned) which then got some very good result with Russell Ingall driving. One of the Peugeots was stood down to make way for Ingall and the Vauxhall (a James Thompson RML car).

Both the 405s then went to the Newman team that Dwayne Bewley ran for him.

There was another 405 sourced from a different British team that bounced around a few guys, Mike Imrie, I think Craig Lawless and others, which never really recovered after its chassis was damaged after being pulled from the sand trap at Hell Corner in 1994.

The Honda ended its days with Anthony Robson in the latter part of 1999, before Jim Cornish ran it in the 2000/01 series (the only driver to win a race other than Paul Morris)

Adam Kaplan ran his ex-GRM Nissan Primera with Hunter Holden backing (and i presume a Holden badge on it?)

Does anyone know where I might get a high resolution shot of the A4 and the 405 Mi16?

Bring it back, to see the variety of cars, and drivers, and the potential of a "full" bathurst grid, would be spectacular.

Yes. No.

Production cars aren't touring cars. They don't move the same, the don't look the same, there is a level of aggression between the two.

It would be nice if that's what the missus is doing, very thoughtful. Thanks Craner, I'll look for it. I was there that year and had a ball being a BMW nut.

Totally agree mate, and I'm no big fan of Road cars on the race track, but if people want to do an endurance race at Bathurst in what they keep proposing (production cars) then they can do it at the 12 hour!

If half of the people who complain about how V8s should be run attended other forms of Motor sport then they would get a little more credence form me!
