BMWs - More to come
What do you think of the BMWs.
I hope you are liking the RWD machines. We have Motorsport news, testing one soon, which should bring more attention to the series. A few of the rally lads, will be joining, in soon, but the next 2 Blytons clash with Rallies. They are so simple, Bilstein Suspension kit or standard Mintex pads on std discs BMW LSD [£200 off ebay] Cage seat harness other safety kit Yokohama 2nd hand tyres Std Engine & Box 175bhp and RWD loads of skids Donor cars available from £150 So did you know that the BMW that Conor uses cost just £3200.[ but that has 2 seats, 2 harnesses and all stage rally kit] Once we get 7 cars we will have our own grid, plus the cheapest tyres around. Keep in touch with Me Pat pat@patflynn.plus@com [please change the second @ for a . but it stops spam. Cheers Pat |

Theoretically it should be possible to pick up a second hand car quite easily too shouldn't it? There are the rally BM's and I assume they're close in spec to the production BMW circuit racers?

Bolt in or welded in cage ? And specifically what regulations does it conform to ?
In terms of having its own class what regulations will be enforced ? Will there be a standard spec, will engines be sealed ? |

e30 bmws are used, its a standard 325, all units sealed at a Rolling road nr M1 J30 [not far from Blyton]. The cage is weld or bolt its your choice.
Looking to build this formula. Idea is that if built to Rally car regs then the car is worth more, as can be used in rally or rallycross. however looking at different ideas for future too. The e30 is lighter than the e36 , plus is much easier to get to handle, we have the spec bang on now after 5 years of development. So its a cheap car yet we have done some real giant killing in them, Pat |

I think this is a great class for Rallycross, I would love to see it in Ireland. Sideways action at a reasonable cost, it's a no brainer. An ideal stepping stone between stock hatch and super modified.
PS Pat: Would you have an LSD with casing for an E30 or do you know of anybody who may be selling one? |

Having driven one of these at the first round at Croft in March all I can say is awesome fun, for cheap cost. Having done FWD rallying and rallycross having a go in one of these put a huge smile on my face, just gutted that I have not been able to get to either Knutts Corner or Blyton as having spoken to the guys who did compete both were great fun.
FYI I reckon I will spend £2.5k on mine which will be pretty much standard except the safety gear, and as Pat suggested closer to £3.5k with the suspension etc, but when you consider the entry fee cost and repairs/rebuilds cheaper than rallying, and stack that up against the rallyx stock hatch guys probably at least the same cost, but RWD certainly more fun. As Pat says get out there and have a go! |

Hi Derek, Check out www.205cup.com which is the 205/RWD challenge website.
The diffs are often on there. You have to go on the forum [Clicky on top right of front page] or www.e30zone.net also has a forum, I have had a diff off there. Will let you know if I see one. Cheers Pat Rewsy, Come on get that car finished, it was real giggle in the wet. The times were great in the final, Conor set times close to Jamie Lea, and Andy scott in the RX 15o, I think he was 7th fastest overall, shame no super final!!! Pat |

Sorry, perhaps off-topic, but I think the E30 is one ugly BMW... Except for the E30 M3 that is! It is not just the arches, also the rear windowsils look much beefier...

Well put it this way - if I had 3/4k spare in the bank I'd have a e30 on a trailer already. Looks a lot of fun and just wish times were a little kinder on the old bank balance.

Fingers crossed for Blyton in June, if not that certainly Pembrey and given how close Lydden is to me, will probably go the BRC event in August to get some practice, which I will need as the BMW boys, especially Conor are flying!!
